RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 2 TO 5

RENO, NV (Sept 2) — Labor Day weekend is a big one in the racing world. There is a bunch going on in this region as well nationally and internationally so let’s get on with it.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

• Lovelock Speedway Silver State Racing will be painting bleachers and the wall this Saturday and more clay is coming to the track. They could use some help so if you have time the project starts around 10 a.m. and any assistance would be appreciated.

• If you ride a dirt bike be sure to stay in contact with Reno Area Dirt Riders (RAD). Lacey is posting updates on where trails are being closed. If you haven’t already done so be sure to join RAD.

CAR MEETS AND CRUISES:

LOW BOOST RALLY is to benefit those that have had to evacuate from Lake Tahoe. Poster courtesy – Lance Freitas.

• Low Boost Perfromance, located at 133 Coney Island Drive in Sparks, is having a Donation Rally on Saturday to benefit those at Lake Tahoe that have had to evacuate. The rally begins at Low Boost at 3 p.m. and ends at Muscle Motors Auto Sales, located at 9501 South Virginia Street in Reno. A way to help others in need.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is when Reno Cars & Coffee is meeting by the Kietzke Starbucks. There is usually a good turnout of all types of cars, trucks and some motorcycles.

• Carson Cars & Coffee tends to have pop up events so be sure to check their Face Book page to see if anything is happening this weekend.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• This weekend is VORRA’s final desert race of the season, the annual Yerington 300. It’s a two-day event.

+ Saturday, starting at first light around 6:30 a.m. is when the motorcycles and quads run the last round of their triple crown series.

+ Sunday, starting at 7 a.m. is when the trucks, buggies and UTV’s get their chance to race. For further information please check, www.vorraracing.com.

Summit Raceway ends its season this weekend with the Gold Rush races.

• Summit Raceway in Elko is ending its season with the Gold Rush races. To sweeten the deal there are special payouts.

Racing begins at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Battle Born Winged sprint cars will also be there.

• Earlier this season the Northern Nevada Kart Club had to cancel a round due to heavy smoke. They are making that race up Sunday so it will be the championship round for the drivers.

First karts are expected on the track at 8:30 a.m., which starts a fully day of racing including qualifying, heat and main events.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• MMX Racing should have its usual practice schedule from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on main, sand and kid tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday with the vintage track added to the mix.

Next round of the 2021 Fall Motocross series will be run Sunday.

• The 2021 Pro Motocross Fall Series will be at the Oatfield Raceway this Sunday. There is practice Saturday for the race.

• Due to the upcoming Pro Motocross race at Hangtown next week the Prairie City course is closed until after that event.

REP Racing MX does have an event at Riverfront MX Park this weekend, it’s the final round of this year’s Saturday Night Series.

There is open practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. On Saturday gates open at noon, practice begins at 4 p.m. with racing to follow.

Sunday is a free ride day for those that raced from 9 until 11, then at 11:30 the BBQ begins to celebrate the season.

Registration for the 50th annual VCGP is underway. Started September 1st.

• For those planning on racing at the 50th annual Virginia City Grand Prix registration began on September 1 and goes through September 30. If one wants a good starting number it’s time to get going.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday begins at 9 a.m. when ESPN 3 has Formula 1 Weekend Preview. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub at 3 p.m. followed at 5 p.m. when Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday gets rolling early at 2:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice then at 5:55 a.m. ESPN U had more practice from Zandvoort.

At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Qualifying Show #1 from the NHRA US Nationals at Indianapolis.

• Saturday has an early start at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN U has Formula 1 qualifying then at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race from Darlington.

This weekend the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at Pala and if one has Peacock they can see everything live, if not it’s a two-channel switching event.

The first motos are live on www.mavtv.com with the first 250 moto at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the first 450 moto.

• Sunday gets going at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 race from Zandvoort in the Netherlands. It’s the first visit in years to this circuit.

At 6 a.m. Fox Sports has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Indy. Then at 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 starts the final show before switching to FOX at 9 a.m. for the final runs.

All drag racers want to win at Indy as the US Nationals is the biggest race of the season. It’s also the final regular event before the countdown to the championship begins.

Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 a.m. has the Camping World Truck Series race from Darlington. Then at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has the NASCAR Cup race from what has been called “The Truck Too Tough to Tame.”

Over on NBC Sports, on a delayed basis, at 4 p.m. they air the second 250 moto then at 5 p.m. the second 450 moto from Saturday’s Pro Motocross event.

Finally at 6 p.m. mavtv broadcasts the 2021 ARCA Series race from DuQuoin.
