RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 12 TO 15

RENO, NV (Aug. 11) — This week’s Racing Preview has cruises, car meets plus racing and some cancellations. Still there is something for about any car and racing fan.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Another Fernley Main Street Cruise is Friday starting at 6 p.m.

• This Friday, starting at 6 p.m. is another Fernley Main Street Cruise. Meeting place is at the Wigwam and the cruise goes from the intersection with 95A to to the round about and returns. A great way to either cruise or just enjoy the passing scene.

The Reno Corvette Club begins its Golden Anniversary at the Auto Museum.

• Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. the Reno Corvette Club starts it’s 50th Anniversary Celebration at the National Auto Museum with a Show ‘N Shine. There is even a poker walk in the museum.

• Sunday, from 10 until noon, is when Reno Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month. Location is by The Human Bean coffee stand that is close to the intersection of Kietzke and Moana Lane.

Northern Nevada Classics has another of its monthly cruise ins.

• Starting at 11 a.m. is when the Northern Nevada Classics has its monthly cruise in at the Redwood Rotisserie and Grill located at 860 East Plumb Lane in Reno.

• Carson Cars and Coffee tends to have pop up events that are usually in the evenings. Best advise is to check their Face Book page.

RACING (REGIONAL):

NOTICE: Due to the Dixie fire Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville has canceled its August 14 as well as the 21st and 22nd races. They are going to try and reschedule if possible.

American Valley Speedway in Quincy has also canceled its Fair Race for this Sunday and its next date is in doubt. Both tracks are on fairgrounds that are being used to stage equipment for the fire fighters.

Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon, has a Friday-Saturday show this weekend.

• There is racing in our area as Rattlesnake Raceway has a Friday-Saturday show with a driver’s meet and greet starting at 6 p.m. All the classes are racing and the first green flag should wave around 7 p.m.

Northern Nevada Kart Club honors one of its founders with the club’s only night race this Saturday.

• This weekend the Northern Nevada Kart Club honors one of its founders with the Rick Jerome Memorial Night Race. Online registration ends Friday at 7 p.m.

Schedule for the NNKC night race this Saturday.

Saturday is race day with registration beginning at 1 p.m. while practice, qualifying and the first heat race starts at 3 p.m. After a dinner break the second heat is run followed by the main events. It’s a fun event and many drivers put lights in their wheels and on their karts.

PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• MMX Racing has its usual practice sessions, from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday with the vintage track added to the mix.

• REP Racing MX has practice sessions but there is a big change. The scheduled Amateur MX Shootout schedule for this weekend at Prairie City has been canceled. There will be practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. at the track Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday is a Sierra Old Timers ride day from 9 until 2 p.m. while Sunday, for the same times, is open practice.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Biggest race in our area is the 25th Anniversary Casey Folks Vegas to Reno event put on by Best in the Desert. Originally it was going to be run in reverse but that has been changed to the traditional route.

Time trials are on Thursday then on Friday at 5:45 a.m. the first Pro Motorcycle is launched. Later at 10 a.m. the UTV, Cars, Buggies and Trucks start. The finish is actually in the Dayton area and the event is live streamed so to view that go to www.bitd.com.

• Switching to TV on Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• This weekend there is a double header at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course. On Friday at noon Peacock has Indy Car practice then at 4 p.m. NBC Sports has the next session.

• Saturday gets rolling at 4:30 a.m. when CBS Sports has the first Formula E race from Berlin.

This week’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at Unadilla and requires some channel switching unless one has Peacock. The first 250 moto is at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m with the first 450 moto and those can be seen on www.mavtv.com.

The second 250 moto is at noon followed at 1 p.m. by the second 450 moto and those can be seen on NBC.

Back to Indianapolis as at 10 a.m. NBC Sports has the Indy Car race. After that the Xfinity series takes to the road course at 1 p.m. when NBC Sports airs that race. Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the first MotoAmerica Super Bike race from PIttsburgh.

• Sunday begins at 6 a.m. when CBS Sports has the second Formula E race from Berlin. Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Pittsburgh.

Over on NBC at 10 a.m. is the NASCAR Cup race, in the past is has been the Brickyard 400. Can Kyle Larson make it two road course victories in a row, only time will tell.

For you drag race fans the NHRA Heartland Nationals has final round coverage starting at noon on Fox. Then at 1:30 p.m. NBC Sports has MotoGP from the Red Bull Ring.

• There is a new cruise as the Pizza Factory in Spanish Springs has one starting at 5 p.m. until dark on Monday. There will be music, raffles and shaded parking.

• Tuesday, from 4 until 8 p.m. is when the south Steak ‘N Shake has its weekly cruise in.

• Wednesday, starting around 5 p.m. the Sparks A&W has a cruise in. It’s located across the street from Reed High Shool

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. In northwest Nevada it can be heard at 1060 AM.
