RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 5 TO 8

RENO, NV (AUGUST 4)— This is Hot August Nights week, biggest tourist event of the year and the buffet is over flowing with things around cars. In addition there are other things so for a car fan its total overload

CAR MEETS & SHOWS:

Helping set the mood Wednesday night were the Washoe Valley Girls from the local LDS church. They all wore hand made poodle skirts and are posed with a 1930’s Auburn Boat Tail car.

• Of course Hot August Nights is the star attraction this week and there are so many events, shows and cruises it’s impossible to list all of them. So for a complete rundown go to their website, www.hotaugustnights.net.

• One event running through Thursday, from 9 until 4 p.m., is the second Women with Wheelz Car show. It’s located on the east parking lot of the Nugget on Victorian Avenue.

There is a raffle plus special prizes, music plus a trailer with great looking period clothes.. Cars must be registered with Hot August Nights but once parked there they can be left while the owners check out the scene in Sparks.

• Another function starting at 5 p.m. Thursday is “August Nights at the Elm.” Location is 1401 West Second Street in Reno,off Dickerson Road. Should be a nice car show.

• Friday day and evening is full of events, cruises and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

• Another event starting Friday and running through the weekend is Nevada Nights hosted by Battle Born MS. Location is the road course at 95 Motor Sports Complex located south of downtown Fernley. There will be drags and drifting. I’m guess the starting time will be 9 a.m. each day as that is not on the poster.

Fernley Cars & Coffee has its first meet this month on Saturday morning.

• Further east Fallon Cars & Coffee has its first event of the month from 10 a.m. until noon. Location is Telegraph Coffee and Tap at 1805 W. Williams Avenue.

Aces High Rally and Car Show is this weekend at South Lake Tahoe.

• Up at South Lake Tahoe it’s the Aces High Rally and Car Show. All makes and models are welcome and there will be drifting exhibitions as well.

• Another Saturday event is the Wicked Wayz Summer Nights BBQ and Cruise. Event runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Paradise Park in Sparks.

• Sunday, from 10 a.m. until noon is when Sparks Cars & Coffee holds its first meet of the month. Location is by Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks.

• Downtown on Sunday is when Hot August Nights winds up with a parade and presenting awards. Then everyone can pack up and head home.

• For those unwinding but still wanting to cruise there is one on Monday. The Pizza Factory in Spanish Springs has started Monday cruises from 5 p.m. until dark. There is shaded parking, music and raffle prizes.

RACING (REGIONAL):

SPECIAL NOTE: Next week’s Plumas County Fair in Quincy has been postponed. They are going to try and have it in the fall so the fair races at American Valley Speedway won’t happened on Sunday, August 15.

• There is racing this week as Lovelock Speedway Silver State Racing is having a two-day show. This happens during Frontier Days when the town celebrates its founding.

Racing begins Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. If one gets there early there is a nice family festival beside the courthouse with games, music and food.

RACING (MOTOCROSS AND OTHERS):

• If one wants to see live coverage of the Loretta Lynn Amateur Nationals they can be seen on www.youtube.com so look for the racertv page. One an also access the coverage at www.racertv.com and coverage begins early.

• This weekend is round one of a short-track series at E-Street MX park. It’s an event for Side-by-Sides and not motocross.

Friday gates open at 10 a.m, tech and registration at noon then practice from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday is race day, gates open at 6 a.m., driver’s meeting at 7:30 a.m. then practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

Sunday is open practice for bikes from 9 to 3 p.m. The day is also fund raiser for Anson Maloney. The goal is to help his efforts to get to this year’s ISDE event as he’s been selected to ride in it.

• MMX Racing should have its regular practice schedule. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid tracks then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday when the vintage track is added to the mix.

• REP Racing MX has round 5 of the REP Saturday Night series on Saturday. Location is at Riverfront MX Park and for further information, including Prairie City, please check the website at, www.repracingtmx.com.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• As usual Thursday is a slow but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 3:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday begins at 12:20 p.m. when www.imsa.tv airs the first Mazda MX-5 race from Road America. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the 2021 ARCA race from Watkins Glen, New York.

• Saturday has an early start art 4:15 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com has a German Touring Car (DTM) race followed at 8:25 a.m. by the second Mazda MX-5 race from Road America.

Then at 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Truck Series race from Watkins Glen. Over on imsatv at the same time they start broadcasting two supporting races from Road America.

At 11:45 a.m. imsatv has qualifying for the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship from Road America. A bit later at 1 p.m. CNBC airs the Xfinity race from Watkins Glen.

• Sunday gets going at 7:30 a.m. when imsatv has two more supporting races from Road America.

From that point NBC Sports carries the load for Sunday. First up at noon is the NASCAR Cup race from Watkins Glen. NASCAR is ending its summer break on the road.

Then at 2:30 p.m. the network airs the Indy Car race from the streets of Music City, or Nashville. It’s another between the walls event so drivers need to be inch perfect.

Finally the day ends with delayed broadcasts. At 5 p.m. its the Weathertech Sportscar Championship Series race from Road America. Then at 8 p.m. they air the MotoGP race from the Red Bull Ring in Europe.
