PRO STOCKS VISIT DIAMOND MOUNTAIN

SUSANVILLE, CA (June 12) – This weekend Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California had a Friday-Saturday show. In addition to the four regular classes the Tri State Pro Stocks rounded out the racing card.

Before their 30-lap main event the Tri State Pro Stocks did a 4-wide salute to the crowd.

Saving the best for last the Tri State Pro Stocks first did a four wide salute to the fans. Then they put on a great race as the first two finishers were usually only less than a foot apart or side-by-side.

For much of the Pro Stock main winner Justin Crockett and Jeff Olschowka (121) were this close.

After taking the checkered flag winner Justin Crockett said, “That was a good race, we towed all the way from Pismo Beach. It was just hard racing last night, trying to go for the lead lost it, sun then came back through the pack. But to come here and win, it definitely makes it worth it. It was a fun race, Jeff puts on a heck of a show.”

Pro Stock winner Justin Crockett dedicated this win to his “#1 Fan” Grasen Olschowka, here holding the flat.

Then Crockett looked down and saw Grasen Olschowka standing beside him.

“This is my number one fan right here so we’re going to dedicate this win to him. Last week at Yreka he said I was either going to win or his dad (Jeff Olschowka) was going to.

Then he thanked his girl friend Terry, C&D Bonding and his crew.

The evening’s show actually began with the Mini Stocks and five of them took the green with Jack Turner on point. Soon after that Katelynn Robertson had him in her sights and got into the lead on lap three with a pass on the front straight.

Then Suzie Schmitt took over second. In the end however Robertson, who graduated from high school last week, scored the victory.

A week after graduating from high school Katelynn Robertson won the Mini Stock main.

During the awards ceremony she said. “It was a blast, I was holding my line and hoping for the best. No problems, I think we’ve got it all together working and good. I couldn’t have done it without my Papa.”

There were so many Stock Cars it took five heats and a B main, won by Bill Patterson, to set the 20-car field for their main. On the green Carl Barlow was on point while behind him there was a four-way duel for second.

Not too long into the 20-lap race there was a caution and a driver was sent to the pits for rough driving. In fact Two more drivers would eventually be disqualified.

There was one more caution when a car stopped at the top of Turn 4 but got going again and headed to the pits. Up front Barlow was being chased by his car owner Royce Goetz.  Behind them Randy Boyd had charged through the pack to take over third was closing.

For a good portion of the Stock Car main winner Carl Barlow had his car owner Royce Goetz chasing him.

In the end Barlow wasn’t about to be denied as he scored the victory ahead of Goetz and Boyd. After that he did a donut on the front straight to celebrate.

Asked if he knew how close Goetz was Barlow said, “I didn’t know how close anybody was, never heard a motor and never seen nothing. We made some big changes on this car the last couple of weeks and it paid off.”

Carl Barlow (right) celebrates his Stock Car victory with his car owner Royce Goetz.

During the awards when asked who to thank Barlow, with a big smile said, “Royce Goetz Racing, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be doing it.”

Fifteen IMCA Northern Sportmods took the green and Craig Nieman was on point but was chased by Richard Longacre and Joe Pearson. Then Pearson spun and somehow everyone missed him.

Every restart in the Sport Mod main winner Chase Nieman would take off. Here he leads Richard Longacre (07) and Jason Ferguson.

When the green waved again Nieman took off but now Jason Ferguson was second just ahead of a three-way fight for third. Then another spin caused a yellow but on the restart Nieman was still on point.   There would be one more caution and in the end Nieman won followed by Chris Sieweke, Phillip Shelby and Ferguson, who slipped to fourth while Longacre used a charge from the back to wind up fifth.

After the race Nieman said, “Got the right set up.”

Then he thanked Big Rob at Gunslinger Chassis, his wife and others that help him.

When the IMCA A Modifieds began their 20-lap main 22 cars took the green and Matt Murphy was on point. However there was a tangle in Turn 2 to a restart was ordered.

The second attempt didn’t end well with another tangle but this time in Turn 1. So there was another restart but this time Wade Kennemore was on point and chased by Riley Simmons and Murphy.

Soon the leaders started catching the slower drivers with Kennemore and Simmons running nose-to-tail. As they caught the slower cars Simmons guessed right and got past Kennemore, who was slightly held up.

Riley Simmons takes the checkered flags as he wins the IMCA Mod main event.

There would be two more cautions that slowed things and bunched the lead cars. When the green waved Simmons would take off with Kennemore and Murphy giving chase. They finished in that order so it was a Susanville one-two-three as they all live locally.

After pulling onto the infield Simmons said, “First lap everybody decided to go off in to 1 the guy that was on the first row spun out in front of the whole field. I see him spin out when we’re going into Turn 3 apparently whoever was behind me didn’t I got ran into.

Riley Simmons swept the weekend by winning Friday and Saturday’s IMCA A Mod features.

“Luckily I was spinning but never stopped so I got to keep my spot back. Hit lap traffic, got by Wade and just kind of cruised from there. The last couple of nights that’s all I’ve done is to drive through lap traffic it’s just been, can’t wait around, got to go.”

Then he thanked sponsors Reno Rock Transport, NAPA Auto Parts, Swiss Brakes and his crew.

• There was a full program of races on Friday night as well. Chris Smith won the Tri State Pro Stock main while Riley Simmons began his sweep of the weekend with a win in the IMCA A Mod main.   Phillip Shelby won the IMCA Northern Sportmod main while Shayna Nieman was the Stock Car winner. Tom Davis was the Mini Stock winner.
