RACING PREVIEW: MAY 13 TO 16

RENO, NV (May 12) – Racing Preview this week has much going on in our region including a special event and announcements. There are a bunch of racing happening across the country as well as overseas.  

CAR MEETS:

Friday night cruise in is back at Summit Racing Equipment.

• Locally the weekend gets started at Summit Racing Equipment located at 960 East Glendale Ave., in Sparks. Things get rolling at 4 p.m. and if it’s like last year there will be music and maybe prizes.   • Fernley/Fallon Cars & Coffee is also having a meet then a cruise. Assembly point is by Jerrys/Telegraph Coffee at 5:30 then at 5:45 p.m. the group convoys down to Top Gun Dragstrip for their first $5 Friday of the season.  

• Still no word if this there is another Fernley Main Street Cruise this Friday. Wish someone would contact me on this.

• Sunday is when Reno Cars & Coffee has its meet by the Human Bean, which is located by the corner of Keitzke and Moana and 10 a.m. is when things get rolling. It’s usually a huge gathering with all types of cars, trucks and motorcycles on display.

• Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday Lake Tahoe Cars & Coffee will have a meet. The say to part your ride inside the Heavenly Village and the address is 1001 Heavenly Village Way in South Lake Tahoe.  

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  

The Northern Nevada Shoot Out replaces the postponed Northern Nevada Modified Tour.

• Although the Northern Nevada Modified Tour has been canceled or at least postponed the three tracks involved have come up with the Northern Nevada Shootout. The event runs from Thursday through Saturday with many classes racing.

  • More good news is that Lovelock Speedway, which has been dark for over a year, is now under new management. As soon as they have a date there will be a test and tune session sometime in June.   All racing begins at 7 p.m. and there will be four Friday/Saturday events. The first is July 23/23, the next is August 6/7, which is Frontier Days, next is September 10/11 and the season ends on the first and second of October.  

RACING (REGIONAL) :  

• Friday and Saturday evenings, starting at 6 p.m. is when American Valley Speedway in East Quincy hosts the annual Dwarf Car Nationals. It’s two nights of racing with these little speedsters as well as the track’s regular classes. It’s usually a great show.  

Top Gun Dragstrip starts the weekend off with $5 Friday.

• Top Gun Dragstrip gets its weekend rolling at 6 p.m. with the first $5 Friday. For an additional $15 a person can make passes down the strip or be in Grudge Racing.  

On Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. racers will begin to time in before competing in the Summit ET or Junior Dragster series.  

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):  

• The Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang is hosting this weekend’s round of the BBMX series. Saturday is for practice, from 9 until 2 p.m. and if possible the first gate will drop on Sunday around 9 a.m. once early practice is finished.  

2001 Summer Sundayz series begins this Sunday at the Oatfield Raceway.

• Round 1 of the 2021 Summer Sundayz series will be held this Sunday at Oatfield Raceway. Gates open at 6:30 a.m., practice at 8 and racing to follow.  

MMX Racing weekend schedule if the weather cooperates.

• MMX Racing should also have its usual practice sessions Saturday and Sunday. Since weather maybe coming in it would probably be a good idea to call before leaving; the number is 530-777-9724.  

• Due to high winds last weekend the first round of the Saturday Racing series was postponed. This week there was no other notice on the hotline so either check the website at www.repracingmx.com or call the hotline at 1-775-265-7223.  

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):  

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then on Fox Sports 2 at 6:30 p.m. broadcast NHRA in 30, a recap of the Atlanta race.  

• NBC Sports has a streaming service called Peacock and on Friday, starting at 6:30 and at 10 a.m. they stream Indy Car practice from the road course at the speedway. Then at 11 a.m. the Indy Car Lights race #1 is shown followed at 1:30 p.m. by Indy Car qualifying.  

• Saturday gets rolling early at 5:45 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com airs the European Le Mans 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring. Then at 7:45 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car warm up.  

Over on WWW.IMSA.TV at 9:15 the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship qualifying from Mid Ohio is shown. At that same time Peacock has Indy Lights race #2 from Indianapolis. Fox Sports 1 at 11:30 a.m. has the Xfinity race from Dover.

At 11:30 a.m. NBC has the Indy Car race on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The day ends at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Saturday qualifying from Charlotte.  

• Sunday begins at 1:40 a.m. when Motor Trend on Demand has the second European Le Mans 4 Hours at the Red Bull Ring.

  Fox Sports1 has NHRA Sunday qualifying starting at 8:30 a.m. then at 11 a.m. the network airs the NASCAR race from Dover, also known as the Monster Mile.

  Finally, on a same day delayed basis, at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at Charlotte, North Carolina.

Reno Area Dirt Riders is having a fundraiser ride this Sunday.

• On Sunday Reno Area Dirt Riders (RAD) is having a fund raising ride. Its to benefit fellow RAD members, who were injured in March.  

They have three children so it’s been a tough time for them. The poster has the location where people can meet. If a person has a dirt bike, loves riding this is the group to join.  

The Grid in Fallon has a nice Tuesday cruise in sock hop.

• Tuesday evening, starting at 5:30 p.m. is when the Grid, located in Fallon behind the Walmart has another sock hop. Should be music and a nice way to cruise in the week.  

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. It can be heard in Northwest Nevada on 1060 AM.
