RACING PREVIEW: FEB. 25 TO 28

RENO, NV (Feb. 23) – Announcements for some changes start this weekend’s Racing Preview. A little less racing than last weekend but the season is just getting started so there is more to come starting in March.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

• For those that follow or compete in VORRA they announced a change in the triple crown series. Due to the restrictions the Yerington 300 has been moved to the weekend of September 3-4.

CAR MEETS:

• This Sunday there are a pair of car meets and both begin at 10 a.m.

Sparks Cars & Coffee will assemble by Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks, close to the target store. Further south Carson Cars & Coffee will gather by the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand.

Both meets are a great way to meet fellow car people or just to see some great looking machines. They run from the exotic to the, well normal with some being great examples of how an older vehicle has new life breathed into it.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Stockton Dirt Track is racing Saturday afternoon with the action beginning at 2 p.m.

• While the Nevada tracks are still dark over the hill there is a race Saturday. Stockton Dirt Track will host several classes with the pit gates opening at 9 a.m., Admission gates open at 1 p.m. and the first green flag waves at 2 p.m.

MOTOCROSS PRACTICE AND RACING:

• This is an off week for the AMA Supercross series. Their next stop is at the Daytona International Speedway where the kick off Bike Week.

• Over in Valley Springs, California, not far from the Monterey area, it’s the Bear Mountain Hare Scrambles this weekend. Round 1 of the AMA District 6 crosscountry series and the first round of the youth series.

• MMX Racing will host its normal practice this weekend. Saturday is from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kids tracks while Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. the vintage track will also be available.

•  REP Racing MX should also have practice as well. However due to winds Thursday at Riverfront was canceled.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday is pretty slim but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

Both www.youtube.com and www.mavtv.com have highlights and other racing programs as well. There is a newer streaming service that covers many types of events and that is www.floracing.com, could be something to check out as well.

• Friday CBS Sports at 8:30 a.m. has Formula E racing from Saudi Arabia. These electric power formula cars put on good shows and due to the absence of exhaust they race in many different types of venues.

• Saturday again begins at 8:30 a.m. with the second Formula E race from Saudi Arabia. This week the top two divisions of NASCAR will be on the oval at Homestead, Florida. The Xfinity race starts at 1:30 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports 1.

• Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m. is when FOX broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Homestead. Now the cars are set up for ovals, no restrictor plates or shifting and it’s go time for everyone.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The show is focused on all things automotive and in Northwest Nevada can be heard over the air at 1060 AM.

The show can also be heard on a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm or seen live on Face Book. Co-host Emily Cook is a young racer working her way up the ladder and has her own website, www.emilycookracing.com, where she sells merchandise to help her efforts.
