RENO, NV (Jan. 13) – This week’s Racing Preview shows we’re heading out from the Re-Run Zone. There is plenty of racing as well as a car meet going on.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
• Northern Nevada Kart Club has been doing construction on its home track, Desert Park Raceway, this week. The track will be closed through Friday but, unless an update is sent, it will be open for practice starting on Saturday.
CAR MEET:
• Reno Cars & Coffee is having its third weekend of the month meet this Sunday. The event begins at 10 a.m. and the location is the Del Real Pub and Grill on the north side of Reno.
OVAL TRACK SCHEDULES:
• This season Battle Mountain Raceway gets things rolling with it’s opener being on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28th.
• Over by Elko Summit Raceway begins its season on April 15 with the Northern Nevada Modified Tour with the first regular race being on May 14 and 15, a Friday and Saturday event.
• Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon, starts its season with a Friday and Saturday show on April 23rd and 24th. Then on Sunday, with a 1 p.m. start time, there is a pending date with the Northern Nevada Modified Tour.
After that the next event is on Saturday and Sunday, May 29th and 30th followed on June 11 and 12 with a Friday and Saturday show.
Race times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. for Sunday races.
• Winnemucca Regional Raceway begins its season with a Saturday & Sunday show on April 10 and 11 then on April l17 hosts the Northern Nevada Modified Tour.ß
• When this article was posted there weren’t schedules for American Valley Speedway in Quincy or Tonopah Speedway. Hopefully someone will take over Lovelock Speedway so that track will be going this season.
• Not to be left out the straight line racers have their season ahead of them at Top Gun Dragstrip located south of Fallon on Highway 95. There will be a test and tune session starting at10 a.m. April 10th, which is a Saturday.
The first full weekend is a two-day show on April 24 and 25, which is Saturday and Sunday. And again there will be a NHRA National open on the weekend of June 12th.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• The final rounds of this year’s AMP Triple Crown are this weekend from Friday through Sunday. The location Oatfield Raceway and their website for information is; www.ampgfimx.com. Good luck to any Nevada riders competing.
• All four Northern California MX tracks will have practice sessions this weekend.
+ MMX Racing has practice Saturday from 9 until 2 and from 9 until 3 Sunday on all of its tracks.
+ All three REP Racing MX tracks will have practice this weekend with Riverfront getting going from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday. On Sunday it runs from 9 until 2 p.m. on all three tracks.
+ E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Prairie City also has practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Satuday and Sunday. However one must register on line as the amount of riders is limited. The website is, www.repracingmx.com.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Both the DAKAR Rally and Chili Bowl Nationals are week-long events.
+ NBC Sports has nightly DAKAR highlights that are also repeated on www.youtube.com. For the moto crowd www.advpulse.com also has highlights. And the moto side may also be repeated on Instagram.
+ The Chili Bowl Nationals has the qualifying and heats being shown on www.floracing.com then on Saturday the opening ceremonies and final races will be shown on www.mavtv.com. One can also see highlights of at least the night’s finals in a highlight show on Youtube.com.
• Now to the TV schedule for this week. On Thursday mavtv does the heavy lifting starting at 1 p.m. with Pro Motocross followed at 3 p.m. by MotoAmerica Race Day.
Then at 4 p.m. it’s Speed Sport followed at 5p.m. by the Lucas Oil Late Dirt Model Dirt Series and then at 7 p.m . its Lucas Oil ASCS 2000.
• Friday once again has Mavtv carrying the load starting at 1 p.m. with FIA Karting followed at 1:30 by Monster Trucks. Then at 2 p.m. they show an event from the Ultimate Karting Championships and at 3 p.m. an event from the now closed Arenacross series.
• Saturday it’s time for the Chili Bowl Nationals from Tulasa, Oklahoma. This annual indoor event brings drivers from all kinds of series as well as overseas.
The day starts at 12:30 p.m. on Floracing.com then switched at 5:30 p.m. over to Mavtv.com.
Another anticipated event is the start of the AMA Supercross series. If you missed the preview show it can be seen on Youtube.com and I believe without commercials. There will also be highlights of each round.
Raceday live comes on at 9:30 a.m. and the racing begins at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports or Peacock. It’s always an action packed series but this year, with one exception there are three races at each venue. Sadly none of the events will be on the west coast.
• Sunday begins early aet 6:30 a.m. when Mavtv has a Chili Bowl marathon. The network will also continue with a variety of shows through out the day.
That evening CBS Sports has a bunch of off road races to show. First one starts at 7 p.m. then after a break comes back at 10 p.m. with a series of events.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Please remember the new frequency is 1060 AM and can now be heard as far north as Susanville as well as Minden and hopefully out to Fernley.
