RENO, NV (Dec. 28) – New Year’s Day is just ahead of us and racing things begin to happen on the weekend. Last week we had the shortest day of the year and in keeping with that theme this is probably the shortest article of this insane year.
CAR MEEETS:
• Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Reno Cars & Coffee will get the New Year started with a meet at the Keitzke Starbucks. If the weather is good there should be a great turnout to welcome the New Year.
• RACING:
• One thing to keep in mind that any racing listed is dependent on the weather. It is winter after all so just be aware of that.
• The Stockton Dirt Tracks gets 2021 off to a roaring start with the Racing into the New Year event. Pit gates open 9 a.m., Cold Pass gates at 1 p.m. and racing begins at 2 p.m.
On the track will be the A-Mods, B-Mods, B4’s, Tri-State Pro Stocks and Bombers. Should be a good show.
• That same day Marysville Raceway has a play day planned. Pit gates open at 11 a.m. but the grandstands are closed. On track practice will go from noon until 4 p.m.
• Saturday is another big day as MMX Racing in Marysville, California has the Hang Over Classic for motocross racers. It’s Grand Prix style so the races are timed and the first gate drops at 8 p.m.. There will be seven races during the day.
• Drag racers won’t be left out as on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. there is the Winter Warmup hosted by Sacramento Raceway. On the schedule is grudge racing, testing and from 10 until 4 p.m. Jackpot.
• Sadly a planned motocross at Fernley won’t happen because at this writing the Reno chapter of the OTHG has been unsuccessful in getting approval from the city. Really sad because the event brings people from out of the area, who buy gas, food and maybe even stay at a motel if they weren’t camping. Nothing like turning down some positive economic activity.
REPORTER’S NOTE: After a crazy year here’s my hope that everyone has a Happy New Year. I want racing to return to normal or at least near normal in 2021. So as we say good by to 2020 be safe and enjoy the holiday.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show will be on the air Tuesday afternoon from 2 until 3 p.m. It can be heard over the air either on 1180 AM or 1160 AM in the Reno/Sparks.
There is also a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm and it can be seen live on Facebook. Co-Host Emily Cook now has a line of merchandise and one can purchase those at www.emilycookracing.com, it’s a great way to help out this young female racer.
