RENO CARS & COFFEE MEET

RENO, NV (Nov.15) – Reno Cars & Coffee held its third weekend of the month meet at the Del Real Pub and Grill on Sunday. Bright sunny weather with a nice breeze greeted those that attended.

Two Mclarens were on hand to add the high end exotic group.

Variety is the theme of these meets. It varies from the two Mclarens to a fixed up VW Bug and everything in between. Much of the work on the cars has been done by the owners and hoods are raised to show off their handiwork with motors.

Many owners are proud to show off the work they’ve done to their motors so hoods are raised.

For car people it’s almost like being in a candy store.

Joe Medulla has his ’67 Firebird on display.

Joe Medulla had his restored 1967 Firebird there. He’s done a bunch of work and the motor is all ready to a fuel injection system and has a temperature gauge on the radiator cap plus a pressure gauge on the fuel line.

Motor in the Firebird. Soon it will get a fuel injection system.

He’s put the fuel pump in the tank and has a hole in the trunk for easy access.

Another car on display was a 2012 Mustang Boss 302 owned by Joe Orcutt. The most striking feaure are the Lambo Doors he’s put on the car.

Joe Orcutt stands by his 2012 Mustang Boss 302 he had equipped with Lambo doors.

The doors aren’t the only thing as he’s also put carbon fiber across the center of the car. This includes the rear end including the trunk lid, roof, hood and front end.

The car has a Coyote headers as well as a viper intake. It’s all in one clean package.

Another car on display, which owner Summer Avissanyx explained is a work in progress, is her 1997 Eclipse with a rebuilt motor. While a student in the Applied Industrial Technology program at Western Nevada College, she asked if it was possible to rebuild her motor.

Sunny Avissanyx points to the motor she rebuilt for Eclipse.

“They said yes and I could use all the tools as well,” she said. “I brought it there in the backseat of a car I owned and they let me use their cherry picker.”

Since then Avissanyx has become an assistant instructor and the motor she rebuilt is in the engine bay of her Eclipse. She added there were a few things still needed and once those are fixed she’ll turn her attention to the rest of the car.

Brian Struthers stands by his stock1973 Buick Riviera Boat Tail.

Another car slated for more work is a very stock 1973 Buick Riviera Boat Tail. Brian Struthers is the owner and bought it this past summer. While he hasn’t put too many miles on it the odometer is stuck at 100,000 miles.

In the near future he plans to put more into the car but even now it almost looks show room new.

Also on display was a Nissan GTR set up for track days at Laguna Seca complete with a roll bar, racing style seats complete with five point harnesses for both seats. There were also a few cars from the Alliance Society car club as well as a bright green Jeep.

This bright green Jeep was also on display.

REPORTER’S NOTE:

Another photographer on site is Alexi Burkett, who was photographing the cars and motors. Sunday he was editing the shots and they’ll be posted in two places.

Alexi Burkett was busy photographing and doing some video of the cars on display. He’ll be posting them on his Face Book page as well as on Instagram.

For his Face Book page go to AJ3AUTOMOBILIA and on Instagram it’s @AJ3automobilia. I know he’ll have some great work posted there.

Next for the group might be a cruise next Sunday to join the Carson Cars and Coffee meet down there. Attending these meets for car people is a real treat as variety, not to mention pride in ownership, is the theme.
