RENO, NV (Nov. 4) – Racing Preview for this weekend has several car events plus racing in our area. On TV there is still more racing although only two major series are ending their seasons over the next two weekends.
CAR MEETS/CRUISES:
• Things get an early start as Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet and cruise on Thursday. Meeting is 10 a.m. at the Kietzke Starbucks and the cruise leaves from there.
• Sunday has a pair of car meets. Down in Carson City at the Dutch Brothers Coffee stand starting at 9 a.m. Carson Cars & Coffee will have its first meet of the month.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. will have it’s first meet of the month. The location is by the Buffalo Wild Wings.
SPECIAL EVENT:
• The Moon Rocks OHV area is popular with rock crawlers and motorcycles. On Saturday from 9 until 4 p.m. the Friends of Moon Rocks is hosting a clean up.
The group will have dumpsters and lunch as well as drinks for those participating.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• This Saturday VORRA will stage the “Fight at the Fort,” off road race. Location is the Ft.Sage OHV area located east of Doyle, California.
Friday is when there is a poker run and tech. Then around 6:15 a.m. Saturday the first race is flagged off. Each race is timed with the final one ending at 5:30 then on Sunday the awards will be handed .
• Sunday is when the last Nevada race for the fall Battle Born MX series will be run. Location is the Sandbox as the Fernley Motocross track is known.
From 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday there will be practice. Then on Sunday they’ll try to drop the first around 9 a.m. One again it will be a cold day with weather, maybe even snow, expected.
MX RACING & PRACTICE (NOCAL):
• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday. Normally all the tracks are available on Sunday.
• REP Racing has a race at one of its three tracks and practice at the other two.
+ E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Once again one must sign up on-line as the numbers of riders is restricted. To sign up please go to www.repracingmx.com.
+ Riverfront is the site of the 48th annual Lilliputian Hare Scrambles. It’s an AMA District 36 event with two full days of racing on tap.
Open practice is from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday then the weekend is reserved for the race. With weather coming in it’s best to check with the tracks before heading out.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• As the major series end their seasons we are headed back into the Re-Run Zone. Not there yet, but soon we will be.
Thursday is pretty slim again but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports has NASCAR Race Hub. Over on www.youtube.com they have highlights from the races so far.
• Friday starts a three-day weekend for NASCAR as they visit the track outside of Phoenix, Arizona. All three series end their season and will crown their champions.
Fox Sports 1 at 5 p.m. will air the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series finale at this 1-mile oval.
• Saturday is also slim pickings but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports will broadcast the Xfinity race from Phoenix. Once again the champion will be known when the checkered flag waves.
• Sunday starts at 10 a.m. when CBS Sports airs the DTM (German Touring Car) race from Hockenheim. This is a very fast circuit until the stadium section where the fans sit and pits are located.
Then in Phoenix, starting at noon on NBC, the final four drivers in the playoffs will race for the NASCAR Cup. It’s also the final NASCAR race for seven-time champion Jimmy Johnson, who is switching to Indy Cars next season.
That leaves the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship as the only major series left. On the weekend of November 14 that series will run the delayed 12-hours of Sebring ending their racing year.
Finally Sunday ends, on a delayed basis, as NBC Sports airs the MotoGP race from Valencia, Spain at 6:30 p.m.

• The 23rd annual IMSA Duel in the Desert begins on November 10th. It’s held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Have to see if fans will be permitted.
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show will be back live on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. In the Reno/Sparks area the show can be heard on 1180 AM.
