RENO, NV (Sept.2) – When the year began it appeared there woud be little racing on Labor Day weekend. Well that changed and there is plenty for car and race fans to enjoy.
CAR MEETS & CRUISES:
• Things get rolling on Friday, from 7 until 9 p.m. with the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. Meeting place is at the Wigwam.
• There are two car meets on Sunday the 6th.
Reno Cars & Coffee has its first Sunday of the month meet starting at 10 a.m. by the Kietzke Starbucks. Over the past few months there has been a huge turn out of about any type of car one can imagine.
Up in Spanish Springs, also starting at 10 a.m., is the “Fill the Void” car and motorcycle benefit Show ‘n Shine. It’s co-hosted by Bully’s and the Pizza Factory.

RACING (REGIONAL):
• There are a pair of big racing events happening this weekend in our region.
+ VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) is bringing back on of its traditional events, the Yerington 300. Things get rolling Thursday then on Friday at 7 p.m. they draw for starting positions.
• Update: Registration has been moved to the Yerington Chamber of Commerce building across from Dini’s Lucky Club. Only one team at a time is allowed inside due to the social distancing requirements.
Saturday has a poker run with tech downtown and a parade at 7:15 p.m. Then on Sunday at 7 a.m. UTVs and the limited classes begin their races. Finally at 1 p.m. the unlimited classes take to the course.

+ Over in Fallon the delayed Octane Fest is at Rattlesnake Raceway. Featured classes will be the Bootleggers, ATV /UTV’s, a demolition derby, Tuff Trucks and at least Hobby Stocks.
It’s a Friday/Saturday event with a 7 p.m. start to the action each night and Saturday ends with fireworks.
• Over at the Reno-Fernley Raceway road course there will be drifting both Saturday and Sunday with some night drifting as well. The event uses the road course just to the east of the 95 Motor Sports Complex oval.
• The Northern Nevada Kat Club will host its next point’s race Sunday at Desert Park Raceway. Qualifying usually gets going around 9 a.m. followed by two heat races and the mains. A lot of races with several different classes.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This weekend MMX racing has three days of practice. On Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. the main, sand and kid’s tracks will be used.
Sunday is a bit longer running from 9 until 3 p.m. on the vintage, main and kid’s tracks. On Labor Day Monday there will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks.
• All three REP Racing tracks will be in action this weekend.
+ Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However one must register online at www.repracingmx.com or they will be turned away. Apparently that are restrictions on the number of riders the track can have.
+ E Street MX Park has practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront will have Thursday night practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then get ready for Saturday’s races. It’s the final 2020 Saturday Night Series event.
Gates open at noon, practice is at 4 p.m. with racing to follow. Sunday is for those that rode in the races. There is a BBQ with awards given out and it’s all free.
• Closer to home the MX track at 95 Motor Sports Complex will have practice from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• As usual Thursday is full of reruns but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• This week the Pro Motocross series races on Friday at the Redbud track. Once again some channel switching is in order.
Both www.mavtv.com and NBC Sports Gold get things start when the first 250 Moto is shown at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. with the first 450 Moto.
Then the live coverage switches to NBC Sports Gold when the second 250 moto is shown at noon and followed by the second 450 moto. Finally the second motos are shown delayed on NBC Sports at 7 and 8 p.m.
• Saturday gets going at 5:55 with Formula 1 qualifying from Monza, Italy and ESPN will air that.
This weekend the NHRA is at Indianapolis again for the U.S. Nationals. Fox Sports 1 has both qualifying sessions at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
At 9:30 a.m. NBC has the Xfinity race from Darlington while at 11:30 a.m. NBC Sports has the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Road Atlanta.
Then at 6 p.m. mavtv airs the ARCA race from Lebanon I-44 Speedway.
• Sunday starts at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race from the classic course at Monza, Italy.
Then at 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the first NHRA Finals from the U.S Nationals followed at 10 a.m. as Fox airs the last part of the finals from the NHRA event at Indianapolis.
At 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck race from Darlington. Not to be left out CBS Sports at 1 p.m. as, on a delayed basis, the DTM (German Touring Car) race from Assen.
Finally at 3 p.m. NBC Sports airs the NASCAR Cup race from the “Track Too Tough To Tame,” at Darlington, South Carolina. Due to the shape of the track it’s usually an action packed event.

• 95 Motor Sports Complex has a very different event on Saturday. It a Flea Market/Swap Meet. Vendors begin setting up at 6 a.m.and selling starts at 7 p.m.
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The topic is anything automotive including trends and trivia.
