RENO, NV (July 22) – Racing Preview for this week has a bunch of car events plus some racing both in our region, over the hill as well as on TV. Should be a good time for race fans.
CAR MEETS/CRUISES:
• As usual the weekend starts on Friday with the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. The event runs from 7 until 9 p.m. with the Wigwam as the meet up place.
Cruise begins at the stoplight, proceeds east, circles the round about and returns. Nice way to end a summer day.
• On Saturday Made in Nevada is hosting a Show ‘N Shine at the Legends in Sparks. It has been moved from the location on the poster and runs from 5 until 10 p.m., all makes and models are welcome.
There is also a craft fair, trophies and dash plaques for those entered. One can register on the day of the show.
• Sunday gets started around 9 a.m. when Carson Cars & Coffee has its monthly meet at Dutch Brothers Coffee locates at the south end of town.
That same day Reno Classic Cars is also having a Show ‘N Shine from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Outlets located in the Legends shopping center.
• Another event Sunday is the Cars & Pizza meet from 2 until 5 p.m. in Fernley at Round Table Pizza. Great way to end the weekend and have a pizza dinner as well.
RACING REGIONAL:
• Big news is that the two-day race event at Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California has been canceled. With the Hog Fire west of town the firefighters are using the pit area for staging equipment.
• To the east Summit Raceway, located between Elko and Spring Valley is hosting two day so of racing. The schedule is a bit different from the poster.
On Friday gates open at 3 p.m., karts start racing at 6 p.m. followed by the cars at 6:30 p.m. Then gates open Saturday at noon, karts start racing at 4 p.m. with the cars starting at 5 p.m.
• To the south Tonopah Speedway will have a memorial race to honor R.J. Gillum and Garnet Robertson who helped found the track. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.
The Hobby Stock main will have a $1,000 to win award but the rest of the payout depends on the field’s size. Also on the racing card are Sport Mods, Mini Stock and hopefully Dwarf Cars.
Since they have gotten permits beverages will be sold but those that bring their own are still okay. Just don’t bring glass bottles or containers and concessions will be open.
• Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) hosts its second race of the season this Sunday. One must register on line by 10 p.m. Saturday and the link is www.nnkcreno.com.
This time spectators will be on the bleachers by the dirt section of the parking. Masks and social distancing are advised. Racing usually gets going between 9 and 10 a.m.
MOTOCROSS PRACTICE/RACES:
• Closest place for practice is the MX track at 95 Motor Sports Complex. On Thursday practice is from 2 until 7 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Over the hill two different tracks have races this weekend, one on Saturday while the other is on Sunday. Plus they also have practice schedules.
+ REP racing has practice sessions plus a race this weekend.
– E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
– Prairie City has slightly different rules so registering online is a must. The link is www.repracingmx.com. Practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday while Sunday is for a private ride session.
– Riverfront hosts a Saturday Night Series race. Gates open at noon, practice begins at 4 p.m. with racing to follow. One can sign up on line early.
+ MMX Racing also has practice and a race but that is on Sunday. Saturday, from 9 until l2 p.m. the main, sand and kids tracks are open for practice. The vintage track is reserved for a WOSMX ride.
Sunday gates open at 6 a.m. with practice beginning at 6:30 and racing to start at 8 a.m. There will be practice sessions from 9 until 3 p.m. on the main, vintage and kids tracks.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Thursday starts at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the NASCAR Cup race from Kansas.
• Friday features a pair of races broadcast by Fox Sports 1. At 4 p.m. they air the first of a Gander RV & Outdoors Truck race from Kansas then follow that at 7 p.m. with an ARCA Series race from the same track.
• The Gander RV & Outdoor Truck series has its second race at Kansas staring at 10:30 a.m. on Fox Sports 1. Then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race from Kansas.
• Sunday is pretty light but begins early at 3 a.m. with a MotoGP race from Jerez, Spain.
After that it’s back to the Re-Run Zone as www.mavtv.com airs a series of events from last year. Things begin at noon with Lucas Oil Off Road featuring UTV’s then at 1 p.m. a Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League event is shown.
Back to the west coast and at 2 p.m. there is SRL racing from Madera followed at 3 by the Pro Buggies racing in a Lucas Oil Off Road event.
• Another option for World of Outlaw fans is www.dirtvision.com. Starting on Friday and running through the weekend they have WOO sprint and late model events from various tracks.
