RACING PREVIEW: JULY 16 TO 19

RENO, NV (July 15) – Racing Preview for this week highlights car meets, cruises, off road racing and an oval track in our region. Over the hill there is a motocross event plus a full banquet of events to see on TV.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

Friday is Fernley Main Street Cruise night.

• Friday get rolling with the weekly Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. Meeting place is at the Wigwam and the cruise runs from 7 until 9 p.m. going east to the round about and returning to the stop light at Alternate 95 is.

• Sunday features a pair of cars meet and cruises. These are great ways to meet fellow car people and see some great looking vehicles.

Reno Cars & Coffee will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday July 9. Location is Del Real Pub.

 Reno Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. has its third weekend of the month meet at Del Real Pub located at 6148 Mae Anne.

Butcher Ranch Run meet is in Truckee at 10 a.m.

• Up in cooler weather country, also starting at 10 a.m., is the Butcher Ranch Run cruise. Meeting place is at the Safeway located at 11290 Donner Pass Road in Truckee.

RACING REGIONAL:

• To the east of Fallon at Salt Wells the VORRA series stages the Fallon250. There are many classes and things begin bright and early, when it’s cooler, at 7 p.m.

Saturday VORRA stages the Fallon250 out at Salt Wells east of Fallon.

First group are the motorcycles. Pro and Expert riders will do three laps while the Amateur and Women riders do two laps.

The UTV, Class 9 and 11 racers are launched at 9:30 a.m. while the big guns in cars and trucks get their turn at 4 p.m. Should be a wild time out on the desert.

This Friday and Saturday evenings the Winnemucca Regional Speedway hosts the Wild West Modified Tour.

• Further east the Winnemucca Regional Speedway hosts the Wild West Modified Tour. This is a Friday-Saturday show with racing starting at 7 p.m. each night.

Should be two nights of intense racing with two different supporting classes added for each show.

MOTOCROSS:

• The 95 Motorsports Complex motocross track is still slated for practice sessions from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 until l2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

This Sunday MMX Racng hosts an AMA District 36 GP event.

• Over the hill MMX Racing in Marysville, Calif. is hosting a GP put on by AMA District 36. On Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m there will be open practice on the main, sand and kid’s tracks.

Sunday is race day with gates opening at 6 a.m. and the first race starting around 7:30. It’s a full program of racing that day.

• REP Racing will also be in action on its three tracks. Their first race will be on July 25 and one can sign up starting Thursday at www.repracingmx.com.

     + E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Riverfront has Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

     +Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

•  Thursday is full of re-runs but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air NASCAR Race Hub and get everyone ready for the weekend.

• Friday is slim but at 6 p.m. NBC Sports broadcasts the first race of an Indy Car double header from Iowa. Should be a good show with the speed and color of racing under the lights on a fast oval track.

• Saturday is a busy day with a variety of events.

Things get rolling at 11:30 a.m. when NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race from Texas then at 2:30 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the ARCA race from Iowa. At that same time NBC Sports broadcasts the IMCA Weathertech Sport Car race from Sebring. After that at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander RV & Outdoor Truck race from Texas.

Later at 5:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs race number 2 of the Indy Car double header from Iowa and at 7:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has qualifying from the NHRA Summer Nationals.

• Sunday is a busy day with very different kinds of racing. Things start early at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Hungary.

Then at 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has further qualifying from the NHRA Summer Nationals at Indianapolis followed at 9 a.m. when Fox broadcasts the final rounds.

At noon NBC Sports has the NASCAR Cup race from Texas and at 4:30 p.m., on a delayed basis, the network airs the Moto GP race from Jerez, Spain.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

• On Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. there is a cruise based out of the South Meadows Parkway Steak ‘N Shake. Should be a nice way to cool down after a summer’s day.

• Last week I was informed that on Wednesday evening starting at 5 p.m. the Sparks A&W, across from Reed High School, has a car meet. Another nice way to unwind after the work week.

• On Tuesday afternoon, from 2 until 3 p.m. it’s time to listen to Teresa’s Garage Radio Show, the only radio show all about automotive things including trends, tips and trivia. In the Reno/Sparks area the show can be heard on 1180 AM.
