RACING PREVIEW: JULY 9 TO 12

RENO, NV (July 8) – Racing Preview for this week has car meets, a cruise, drag racing plus plenty of events for open wheel and NHRA fans not to mention NASCAR.

CAR MEETS/CRUISES:

The Fernley Main Street cruise gets the weekend going on Friday.

• Once again, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday has the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. Meet up place is the Wigwam and the cruise runs from the stop light, around the round about and back again.

• Sunday has two car meets both at the same time.

+ Sparks Cars and Coffee is having the usual second weekend of the month meet. It starts at 9 a.m. and is by the Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks, which is close to the Target store.

+ South of town from 10 a.m. until noon Muscle Motors is having an AG Exotic Car Show. Last year’s had a pretty good a mix of different cars. The shop is located at 9501 South Virginia.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Battle Mountain Raceway schedule.

•  Battle Mountain hosts the next round of the I-80 Challenge with a Friday/Saturday show. On Friday gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m.

Saturday gates open at 10 a.m., Kart races begin at noon and the cars start their racing at 7 p.m.

Top Gun has a $5 Friday this weekend.

• Top Gun Dragstrip begins the weekend with $5 Friday that runs from 6 p.m. until midnight.

When entering Top Gun Dragstrip a face covering or mask is required.

Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. features Summit ET and Junior Drags, ET Challenge #3, Jr. Drag Challenge as well as T-N-T. Sunday’s show also begins at 9 a.m. with the Summit ET and Junior Drag series #8 and T-N-T.

MOTOCROSS RACING & PRACITICES:

• The motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex south of Fernley has Thursday practice from 2 p.m.  until 7 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday the practice sessions run from 9 until 2 p.m.

• MMX Racing in Marysville has it’s usual schedule with Wednesday practice from 3 until dark on the sand and kid’s tracks.

Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. practice is on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. the vintage track is added to the three others.

• This weekend REP Racing begins a 5-race Saturday night                                series at Riverfront but on Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. there is open practice.

Saturday is race day and gates open at noon while practice starts at 4 p.m. with racing to follow. While one can register at the gate they can also register on line.

Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. is open practice. Next race in the series is on July 25th.

E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However for this track one needs to sign up online at www.repracingmx.com.

Online registration for the upcoming Fallon 250 is only open through Friday.

• For those wishing to race next week in the VORRA Fallon 250 you must register online. Deadline is Friday, July 10. The site is www.vorraracing.com, and there is a class for motorcycles.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday gets going at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 5 p.m. the network broadcasts the first Xfinity race from Kentucky.

• Friday is slim but at 5 p.m. the second Xfinity race from Kentucky will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.

• Things start to heat up Saturday as NBC Sports, at 11:30 a.m. has Indy Car Qualifying from Road America. At that same time Fox Sports 1 has ARCA racing from Kentucky.

Then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has the first of two Indy Car Races from Road America and at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series racing at Kentucky.

• Sunday has an early start at 3:05 a.m. as ESPN broadcasts the second Formula 1 race from Spielberg, Austria in as many weeks.

Drag racing fans will be very happy this weekend as the NHRA is back on the road. This time it’s the Summer Nationals from Indianapolis as the straight-line racers shake the pavement.

Then at 9:30 a.m. NBC airs the second Indy Car race from Road America, a course that’s long and challenging. Finally at 11:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Kentucky.

That’s it for this weekend so if you can get out and attend a race as there’s nothing like it for color, sound and speed. If you can then visit one of the car meets, great way to meet car people and check out what they are driving.
