RACING PREVIEW: JULY 2 TO 5

RENO, NV (July 1) – Independence Day weekend and Racing Preview highlights cruises, car meets and racing along with fireworks. Going to be a busy time for race fans.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Friday’s are when the Fernley Main Street Cruise happens.

• As usual the weekend gets rolling Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m. with the Fernley Quarantine Main Street Cruise. Meet at the Wiigwam then cruise goes from the stoplight to the roundabout and back.

• On July 4th, Saturday there is a cruise in Virginia City. The assembly point is the 4th Ward School on the south side of town and from noon until 1 p.m. the cruise happens. Sadly the town decided to cancel its annual fireworks show.

• Since it’s the first weekend of the month Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet at the Keitzke Starbucks. Start time is 10 a.m. and they’ve been getting large turn outs for these. Its a good time to meet and greet fellow car people.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Two area racetracks will have fireworks on Saturday. Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California has a two-day show with racing starting at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Saturday’s July 4th’s show includes the fireworks display.

• Rattlesnake Raceway, starting at 6 p.m. has racing on July 4th as well as a fireworks display. Plan on getting there a bit early as it is the site of the town’s fireworks.

MOTOCROSS:

• For those wanted to get in some motocross practice 95 Motor Sports Complex is available. On Thursday the times are 2 until 7 while practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Over the hill there are three motocross tracks that have practice this weekend.

MMX Racing has practice on the sand and kid’s track from 3 until dark on Friday. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on the vintage, main, sand and kid’s tracks.

REP racing has all three of its tracks hosting practice sessions this weekend. And there will also be racing this month.

     + E Street Motocross Park: Practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and      Sunday.

     + Riverfront: Practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

     + Again one must sign up on www.repracingmx.com if they want to practice at Prairie City. No spectators and each minor is to be accompanied by one adult.

     There are sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• This is a special weekend for NASCAR and Indy Car fans, for the first time ever they are having a double header at the same track along with the ARCA series. That track is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This probably the first time NASCAR hasn’t raced at Daytona on July 4th. Some of this will be highlighted on Thursday at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday gets off to an early start at 8 a.m. when ESPN 3 has Formula 1 qualifying from Austria. Then at 5 p.m. www.mavtv.com streams the ARCA race from Indianapolis.

• Saturday is a busy day and has an early start at 5.55 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying. Then at 9 a.m. NBC has Indy Car racing from Indianapolis.

There will be racing at Daytona as www.imsa.tv at 10:55 streams the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car series qualifying at the speedway. Then at noon NBC airs the Xfinity race from Indianapolis and the day ends at 3 p.m. when NBC Sports broadcasts the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Daytona.

• Sunday has two big races, one in this country and the other overseas.

Things get rolling at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Spielberg, Austria. After several months these international racing teams take to the track.

Then at 1 a.m. the NASCAR Cup drivers race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the annual Brickyard 400. All the races at the speedway this weekend will be without spectators and it’s going to be interesting to see how the winning team kisses the yard of bricks.
