RENO, NV (May 27) – This week’s Racing Preview brings good news, it’s time to celebrate as racing has returned to our region and nationally as well. This in addition to car meets/cruises and a birthday parade slated for this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• On Saturday Reno Carss & Coffee gets things rolling with a Lake Tahoe cruise. The meeting time is 10:45 and the place is the Century Summit Sierra south of town.
• A little earlier that day at 10 a.m. the Mustang 775 Club is hosting a car meet at Mills Park in Carson City.
• Then at 5 p.m. the Limited Car Club is having a kick back evening at the Road Rider of Reno located at 2187 Market Street. There will be a taco truck and drinks available.
• Sunday has another birthday parade sponsored by Reno Cars & Coffee. This time it’s for a 16 year old and the meeting time is 1 p.m. at the Raleys on Wedge Parkway in Reno.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• First a bit of sad news. The annual Father’s Day Corey Herring Memorial race at Honey Lake has been postponed. It appears most of the MRANN season will happen in the fall.
• Now to the good news. On Friday, starting at 7 p.m. the oval at 95 Motor Sports Complex starts it’s 2020 season. Masks are mandatory and social distancing required and spectators are welcome so that gate opens at 4 p.m.
• Moving east the Winnemucca Regional Raceway is hosting the 4th annual High Desert Shoot Out Saturday and Sunday as well as the 2nd annual I-80 Challenge. Unsure if spectators are allowed but the start time both days is at 1 p.m.
• The Northern Nevada Kart Club is gearing up for the start of its season next weekend. Saturday is a track workday as things need to be cleaned up tested and made ready for the start of racing.
Jacob Ciari is holding a Race Seminar both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Both club and non-club members are invited. If one ever is curious about kart road racing this is a good time to check it out.
MX PRACTICE:
• This weekend, due to the expected heat all the Motocross tracks in Northern California are only holding sessions on the weekend.
+ MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.
+ Once again if one is going to practice at one of the REP Racing tracks they need to get signed up on their website at www.repracingmx.com. There are only a limited amount of spots available.
+ Both E Street and Riverfront will only have sessions Saturday and Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. when things cool down a bit from the week.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• After the Supercross season was cut short it’s on again. The final seven races will be run at Salt Lake City and will be a televised event as no spectators will be present.
It all starts this Sunday on NBC Gold then switches to NBC.. For those with just NBC the action begins at 1p.m. but noon for Gold subscribers.
For the remainder of the schedule virtually all the races will be on NBC Sports or Gold. Fortunately www.youtube.com will have either the highlights or races after the fact.
• NASCAR is racing again this weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway. On Saturday at 12:30 p.m. the Xfinity series takes to the half-mile track. Then at 12:30 Sunday the NASCAR Cup series get their turn.
Drivers describe racing here akin to flying a fighter in a bathtub. The action can get pretty wild at times and both races will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1. Unfortunately there won’t be spectators allowed at either race.
That’s its for this weekend. Be safe out there and enjoy the nice weather, just hope it doesn’t rain Saturday.
