RENO, NV (April 8) – Racing Preview this weekend is going to be a bit empty due to the Easter holiday. However there was a special event Wednesday.
Jake Ewing was turning 10 and his family wanted to do something special for him. He suffers from non-verbal autism so can’t speak but sure showed how excited he was.
Lance Freitas, who heads Reno Cars & Coffee, saw his mother’s plea on Face Book and decided to do something about so organized a convoy that traveled from Reno to Dayton.
They where joined by other Cars and Coffee groups, as well as a Harley Davidson bunch. In the mix was a truck from the GMC Tire Store and even a unit from the Central Lyon Fire District.
It was a long parade with noise, people wishing this young boy a very Happy Birthday, some presents and just plain joy in making this day very special for him. The parade also was great entertainment for the neighbors from both sides of the street.
A good example of people coming together and spreading joy in this very unusual time we all are going through.
CAR MEETS AND SHOWS:
• Sunday’s usual meet for Sparks Cars & Coffee has been cancelled for this month. Hopefully they’ll be back in May.
• The annual swap meet at Baldini’s Casino scheduled for April 19 has also been cancelled for this year.
• Another anticipated event the annual Classic Chevy Show at Rancho San Rafael scheduled for May 23 has also been cancelled.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• This Saturday 95 Motor Sports Complex was supposed to open it’s season under new ownership. Sadly that date has been postponed and hopefully the oval track will start racing in May.
Another event slated for this weekend was the BBMX one in Carlin, that too has been canceled.
This month MRANN announced there is no monthly meeting. The Gold Diggers race has been postponed as well. So far the Cheaters race on the weekend of May 16/17 is still a go but we’ll have to see what happens.
• Over the hill in Northern California the four motocross tracks aren’t under number restrictions so they still have practice scessons. Sadly the crowd restriction here in Nevada had not allowed the motocross track at 95 Motor Sports Complex to offer practice sessions.
Here are the practice schedules for the Northern Nevada Motocross tracks. They also ask to please not bring unnecessary spectators and remember social distancing.

On Saturday the Indy Car series will have a Simrace at Michigan International Speedway. There will be a guest driver, a Simracing veteran, Dale Earnhart making his Indy Car debut driving #3. NBC Sports will broadcast it at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
iRACING is having a big impact on the racing world as well as their fans. These events allow experienced Simracers to compete against the regulars and many times they win.
• In other NASCAR news, the Next Gen cars won’t be on the track until the 2022 season. So for now the cars will be pretty much the same.
• Currently many teams are laying off their skilled employees and that includes the Formula 1 teams. Hopefully by May racing can get rolling again.
That’s it for this weekend. Wishing all of you a safe and blessed Easter Weekend.
