RENO, NV (March 11) – Racing has returned to our region as well as a bunch of events to watch on TV. There are also practice sessions and the start of a series on the Norcal motocross tracks.
CAR MEETS:
• Reno Cars and Coffee has moved to a new location for this weekend’s meet. On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. they will meet at Del Rio Pub and Grill located at 6148 Mae Anne Avenue. It’s always a great way to meet fellow car people.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• This weekend there is a combined MRANN and District 36 event out at Toulon, which is located off I-80 west of Lovelock.
Saturday gets rolling with the Pee Wee event at 9 a.m. followed by the Mini Bike, Saturday Women, Vintage and Bombers starting at 10:30. That’s the short day for the event.
Sunday is when multiple classes in the District 26 part with races beginning at 9 a.m. when the experts take to the 30-mile long loop. Later, starting at 11:15 a.m. the riders begin their second loop.
• The Reno Chapter of the Over The Hill Gang (OTHG) kicks off the spring series for BBMX at the Fernley/Wadsworth Elks Motocross Track, or Sandbox as it’s known. The track lies west of the veteran’s cemetery.
Saturday, probably starting around 9 a.m. is for practice on a reshaped and groomed track. Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. is when the first gate is scheduled to drop as the season begins.
MOTOCROSS (NORTHERN CALIFORNIA):
• This weekend starts the Amateur MX Shootout series and that event is slated for the Argyle MX track in Dixon. For further information please check, www.hangtownmx.com.
Here are the practice times for other Northern California MX tracks:
+ Riverfront – Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then 9 to 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ E Street MX Park – Practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Prairie City – Thursday from 1 until 6 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ MMX Racing from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday gets rolling at 2 p.m. with NASCAR America on NBC Sports then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub.
Later in the day at 7:45 p.m. www.motortrendondemand.com has Race 3 from the Melbourne 400 for the Virgin Australian Supercars.
• Friday gets going at 11:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has Xfinity practice from Atlanta followed at 12:30 with Cup practice and at 1:30 truck practice.
Switching back to Motor Trend on Demand at 5:55 p.m. they air race #4 then at 9:55 have race #5 from the Supercar event. Finally at 11 p.m. Fox Sports has NHRA Friday Nitro from the Gaternationals.
• Saturday gets started early at 7 a.m. when the Gander rV and Outdoors Truck series qualify at Atlanta followed by Xfinity and NASCAR Cup qualifying. Then that 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports broadcasts the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck race followed at 1 p.m. with the Xfinity race also from Atlanta.
At 4 p.m. NBC Sports shows the AMA Supercross event from inside the dome at Indianapolis. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA Saturday Nitro Q3 followed at 10 p.m. with Sunday Live Q4.
Switching back to Motor Trend on Demand, at 6:45 p.m. the network streams race #6 for the Australian Supercars. Then at 10 p.m. ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix that starts their globe-trotting season.
• Sunday begins on Fox at 11 a.m. when the network broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Atlanta. This is probably the fastest racetrack on the circuit.
Over on NBC Sports at 12:30 p.m. they’ll air the season’s first Indy Car race from Saint Petersburg, Florida. Finally at 6:30 p.m. on a delayed basis, Fox Sports has the NHRA Gaternationals from Gainsville, Florida.
