RENO, NV (January 1, 2020) –We’re still deep in the Re-Run Zone was we start the New Year, however Racing Preview shows there is light at the end of the tunnel.
CAR MEETS:
• Since it’s the first weekend of the month Reno Cars and Coffee will have its first meet of the year at the Kietzke Lane Starbucks. Things get rolling at 10 a.m. Sunday and with good weather should be a great turnout again.
Right at New Year’s Eve Lance Freitas posted the group now has 5,000 members. Should be a banner for this group of car lovers.
• RACING (REGIONAL):
• Racing returns to our area when OTHG RENO brings back the popular Sand Box Grand Prix this Sunday. The site is the Fernley/Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross track in Fernley or the Sandbox as its known.
They day begins with a round of motocross races for the classes then ends with a Mini & Women team race followed by the Big Bike team race. Each rider on a team does one lap then exchanges a wrist band with their partner who does the next lap. It’s a timed event so after a while the team races become a blur of bikes and riders.
• Practice schedules for the Northern California motocross tracks are:
+ MMX – From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ E Street Motocross Park – From 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront – Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ Prairie City – Thursday from noon until 5 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday is all www.mavtv.com, which has a long list of events they are repeating.
On the list, starting at 12:30 p.m. is Super Cup Stock Car Series followed by Outlaw Figure 8 and Short Track America. Then at 3 p.m. there is Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series followed by Speed Sport and Madera Racing.
• As usual Friday is very slim but mavtv has numerous programs about shops and cars.
• Saturday is a great day for motorcycle fans. Mavtv gets things rolling at 10 a.m. showing two Pro Motocross races this summer. Following that is another series of races that happened this past year ending at 6 p.m. with Lucas Oil Speedway Saturday Night Racing.
Big news however is the start of the 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. Thing get started at 6 p.m. when NBC Sports has a Supercross preview show followed at 7 p.m. with the race or Anaheim 1. Should be an action packed evening.
• Sunday gets rolling at 3 p.m. when CBS Sports has two hours of World of Outlaw action.
Over on mavtv there is another list of races starting at 3 p.m. with Lucas Oil Drag Boat racing followed at 4 p.m. with Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League. Then at 5 p.m. it’s Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions and at 6 p.m. Short Track America.
After almost a decade since it was chased out of Africa the Dakar Rally has been held in South America. This year they have a new location, Saudi Arabia.
The action starts Sunday and runs until the 17th. Needless to say it will have a huge amount of desert, probably sand racing. No word yet where one can see at least highlights but Dakar does have a Face Book page.
That’s it for this weekend. Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year’s celebration. Now the days are getting lighter and racing will soon be full time again.
