SEASON ENDING BBMX RACE

FERNLEY, NV (Nov. 10) – The final race for our region was held at the Fernley-Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross Track this weekend. Hosting the event was the Reno Chapter of the Over The Hill Gang and it marked the end of the BBMX season.

The turnout was pretty good and a couple of the classes either had virtually or full gates in face one class had 31 riders at the gate. Helping the show was great racing weather.

The big winner of the day was Casey Carmichael, who won in Schoolboy, 125/250 Intermediate as well as in 250/450 Intermediate.

When ever they met Casey Carmichael and Dylan Thorwaldson usually had an epic battle at the first part of a race. Here they are in the 125/250 Intermediate second moto.

Several times he was challenged and passed by Dylan Thorwaldson. Still in the end Carmichael prevailed and scored the victory.

His victory in Schoolboy entailed an extra lap as the flagman didn’t get the checkered out in time so Carmichael did two white flag laps.

Casey Carmichael was the big winner scoring three wins in Schoolboy, 125/250 Intermediate and 250/450 Intermediate classes.

After coming off the track he said, “I’ve learned to always race to the checkered flag. The races are pretty good but the track?s getting a little rough after the redid it but nothing much.

Then he thanked Atlas, Speed Factory, CB Racing as well as his parents.

Dustin Miller was the only Pro on hand so he won the 250/450 Pro class plus the 30+ Master class.

There were also other double winners during the day. Dustin Miller was the only pro on hand and he won in 250/450 Pro as well as the 30+ Master Class.

The Women?s “A” race was a family affair. Sedanna Losey won both motos but was chased by her sister Shami Potratz, who ended up second overall, and her daughter Hayden Losey.

The Woman’s “A” motos were a family affair as Sedanna Losey (24r) was chased by her sister Shami Potratz and daughter Hayden Losey in both motos.

The Women?s “B” winner was Claire Petre, who had to hold off Sierra Koch.

After winning her second moto Losey said, “I Just came out for fun today, haven’t been riding a lot, my shoulder’s been hurt so I thought I’d just run with the women’s class, give them a little competition for the last race. Being president of OTHG has taken a lot of time energy away for watching them”

Then she thanked, Moto-Source, One 11 Concepts and her family for their support.

Other double winners were Kile Fye as he topped the 30+ Intermediate and 25+ Classes. Demetre Proutsos also scored a double when he won the 2-Stoke Open and 125/250 Junior races.

Looking at the age brackets at the top are the 50+ racers. Troy Decker won the Junior Class while the Intermediate winner was Mike McMurry.

The bottom of the age ladder is where the next generation of racers are earning their racing spurs. Youngest are the Pee Wee racers using single speed bikes while the 65cc riders have learned to shift and are also going even faster.

Young Cord Hunter won the Pee Wee, or 50cc, Beginner class while the Junior winner was Wyatt Berrington. For Gardnerville rider Gaven Giomi it might be his final time in this class and he scored a double by winning the Intermediate and Open races. In fact he ran away with all those motos and also raced in his first 65cc races.

In what may be his final weekend racing in the Pee Wee classes Gaven Giomi scored runaway victories in 50cc Intermediate and Open races.

When a young rider moves into the 65cc class they learn how to shift and are a bit quicker around the course. Jonny Simpson was the Beginner winner while Hugwapi Minden won the Junior Class.

For Lala Turner is was a banner day as she not only won two classes, 65cc Intermediate and Open but had the honor of scoring the final overall victory to end the 2019 season for BBMX.

Lala Turner had a great day scoring two victories in 65cc Open and Intermediate. She also had the final victory that closed out the 2019 season.

Next up are the riders that will soon move into the big bike classes as they ride 85cc bikes. Speed and weight has increased but they get a chance to show their elders what to expect in the future.

R.J. Sheehan was the beginner winner while Declan Kahabdk took the Junior class and the Intermediate and Open winner was Rogen Hill. Once again Chase Cannizzaro ran away with the Supermini motos.

Chase Cannizzaro leads the start of the Super Mini second moto. He won both races and took the overall victory.

After winning his final moto of the day Cannizzaro said, “The track’s getting rough and had fun. I’d rather be racing someone cuz they make me push, just more fun to race with people.”

Then he thanked his parents, brother, Moto-Source, Reno KTM, Thor, Leatt, Tech One and everyone else that supports his racing.

This year Sedanna Losey was the OTHG president but she’s stepping aside and shared her thoughts about her decision.

“It’s been a great year, the club’s going super strong and now’s a great time to get some new leadership in there while everything is going strong and everybody is really active. And that’s kind of the goal,” she said. “I’m stepping down and Danny Martin is going to be the president for 2020 Michael Worrall will be his race director, I’ll still be around and if they need anything I’ll be here to help. It’ll be nice to get some new leadership trained.”

Later the new president Daniel had comments as well as some plans for next year.

”Just keep it basically the same, I mean try to better and better each year. Change the track up every race, make a difference and enjoyable for everybody to run. Try to hold more races and more practices,” he said.

Then Martin talked about bringing back a popular one off event.

“We are actually planning doing the Sand Box in January so we’re going to do another GP race,” he said. “I think we’ll have it toward the end of the month, we’re still trying to figure out the layout with the new property lines and everything else to try and try to make it where everybody can do it”

Now the season is over and the next BBMX function will be the banquet on January 11 although the site has yet to be determined.
