RENO, NV (OCT. 23) — Racing Preview for this week is really showing how motor sports are winding down as we get closer to the year’s end. Still there are races to either see live or watch on TV or the Internet.
SPECIAL NOTICE:
• The Reno Area Dirt Riders club is having a meeting at Pizza Plus, 2211 Oddie in Sparks, at 6:30 Thursday. If you have a dirt bike this is a great group to join. This way when one goes riding they aren’t alone and the club also is speaking up for dirt bike riders when land use issues come up.
CAR MEETS:
• Friday is the final “Last Friday Cruise,” at the Carson Mall. There are prizes and other things with registration beginning at 5:15 p.m. and the proceeds go to a local charity.
• Closer to home 5 Star Athletics, located at 280 South Rock Blvd. in Reno, is having a Trunk & Treat from 6 until 8 p.m Friday evening. It’s a great way to start Halloween for the kids.
• There are more Trunk & Treat happenings on Sunday in the Reno/Sparks area. From 2 until 4 p.m. at the Convent Presbyterian Church located at 6695 Mae Anne Avenue then from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. the Tock Church, located at 4950 Vista Blvd, will also be having a Trunk & Treat.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• MRANN will end it’s season this weekend when the Tankslappers Motorcycle Club hosts “The Nightmare on Purgatory Peak,” where the final points will be awarded. Riders in costume can earn prizes and there will be trick or treating for the youngsters Saturday night.
Saturday’s action begins at 10 a.m. when the Pee Wees take to the short course. This is followed at noon with the Mini Bikes/Women/Bomber on a longer but still short course.
The Big Bikes will race on at 50-mile loop starting at 10 a.m. Sunday. To be classed as a finisher a rider had to complete one lap.
• Here is the schedule for the Northern California MX tracks:
+ MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ E Street MX park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
+ Riverfront has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
+ Prairie City has practice from 1 until 6 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
+ Prairie City Arenacross track hosts round 1 of this year’s Fall Futures series. On Saturday gates open at 8 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Then on Sunday gates open at 7 a.m., practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• As usual Thursday is a bit slim but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America followed at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• On Friday www.beINsports.com/us/tv-guide starting at 9 a.m. has Superbikes then at 6:30 p.m. Moto GP qualifying from Phillip Island.
• Saturday gets rolling at 9:55 a.m. when beIN Spors has the Superbike race from Qatar.
At 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Gander Outdoors Truck Series from the “Paper Clip,” as Martinsville is known.
• Switching to the Internew www.fanschoice.tv has a series of races starting at 2 p.m. with an event at Meridan Speedway followed at 5 p.m. with the Pumpkin Smash at All American Speedway in Roseville, California.
Then at 7:25 p.m. the network streams the NASCAR K&N Pro West race from Kern County Speedway in Bakersfield, California.
• Sunday get started at noon when NBC Sports has the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. Once again it’s a critical race for those drivers trying to get into the final four that will determine the champion when the season ends at Homestead next month.
Far to the South at Mexico City the Formula 1 series will race on a track that even uses part of a baseball stadium. The Championship probably won’t be decided until the next race.
