RENO, NV (Oct. 9) – Racing Preview shows that things are slowing down as we head into fall then winter. Still there is racing to attend and see.
• CAR MEETS:
+ Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. Bully’s in Carson City is having a Trunk & Treat. It’s a good way to get some goodies before Halloween.
+ On Sunday Sparks Cars & Coffee will have it’s monthly meeting starting around 10 a.m. at the Buffalo Wild Wings. This is located near the Sparks Target Store.
+ On Wednesday, Oct. 16, there is a special film being shown at the Whitney Peak Hotel in the Concert Venue. It’s “Strong, the Destry Abbott Story.”
He’s a pretty well known off road motorcycle racer that has been battling cancer and apparently come out on top. Doors open at 6 with a 7 p.m. start to the movie.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Fernley 95A Speedway ends it’s racing season with a two-day show this weekend. Saturday racing will l start at 6 p.m. then on Sunday there is a 1 p.m. start to the action.
One more chance to see some local racing.
• For the two wheeled crowd there are two races, plus motocross practice in Northern California.
+ The MotoPro Graphics Triple Crown has a schedule change so the opening round will be at the MMX track in Marysville.
Gates open Thursday from 4 until 10 p.m. for those wishing to get an early camping spot. Friday gates open at 7 a.m. with practice from 8 until 2 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday are race days. Gates open at 7 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow that.
+ Not far away E Street MX Park has practice session from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ Prairie City hosts an Over The Hill Gang race this weekend. There is practice Thursday from 1 until 6 p.m. then from 9 until 2 Saturday.
Sunday is race day, gates open at 6:30 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday gets going at 1 a.m. when ESPN 3 airs Formula 1 Welcome to the Weekend. At a more civilized hour 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR America.
Later at 5:55 p.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 practice then at 9:55 p.m. ESPN 2 has even more practice.
• Friday starts at 11:30 a.m. when NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup practice from Tallageda followed at 1 p.m. with more practice. Then at 3:30 p.m. the network switches to Road Atlanta for qualifying for this weekend’s Petit Le Mans race.
At 6 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Friday Night Nitro Live followed at 10:55 p.m. by Formula 1 qualifying on ESPN 2.
+ The Formula 1 qualifying might have a problem as a pretty big typhoon is slated to his the Suzuka course about the same time.
Switching over to the Internet
+ Then www.fanschoice.tv at 11 a.m. streams the 57th annual Sonoco World Series of Speedway Racing from Thompson Speedway. Then 12 hours later at 11 p.m. www.motortrendondemand.com at 11 p.m. has Virgin Australia Super Car qualifying from the Bathurst 1000.
• Saturday gets going at 7:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has Gander Outdoors Truck series qualifying followed at 10 a.m. with the race.
Then at noon NBC Sports Live begins coverage of the season ending IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race, the Petit Le Mans from Road Atlanta. At 10 p.m. ESPN has the Formula 1 race from Suzuka, Japan.
Switching back to the Internet at 4:30 p.m. motortrendondemand.com has coverage of the Australia Supercar event, the Bathurst 1000. Always a pretty wild event.
Fanschoice.tv starts showing weekly racing at 4 p.m. with the season ending event from Langley Speedway then another from All American Speedway before showing one at Tucson Speedway. Then at 6:35 the network streams the K&N Pro Series West race from All American Speedway in Roseville, California.
• Sunday has two events starting at 11 a.m.
NBC has Monster Energy NASCAR Cup racing from Tallageda while Fox Sports 1 begins coverage of the final rounds for the Carolina Nationals from the 4-wide strip at Charlotte.
Finally ESPN 2 will repeat the Formula 1 race from Japan at 6 p.m.
