RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER 19 TO 22

RENO, NV (Sept. 18) — Racing Preview for this weekend highlights cruises,  a hill climb as well as oval track and desert racing. The last of summer is upon us and the motorsports scene is changing.

CRUISES/SHOW N’ SHINES:

• Things get rolling down at Mills Park in Carson City with the Rockabilly Riot. The event runs from Thursday through Saturday with many events rounding out the show.

Thursday is from 9 until 5 p.m. with hours for Friday being noon until 5 p.m. then Saturday gets started at 9 a.m. and goes to 9 p.m.

• There is a very different kind of event going on from 10 until 4:30 Saturday and Sunday. It’s the Sky High Basshead BBQ put on by Sky High Car Audio Cable located at 831 Deming in Sparks. Seems to be where someone can show just how loud their car’s sound system can go.

Another Saturday – Sunday event is the Virginia City Hill Climb returning after a year’s absence. The Ferrari Club of America is the host and the truck route is where the runs will be held.

All types of cars are welcome although there is a safety inspection before being allowed to participate. Saturday begins with practice starting around 9 a.m. with runs to follow. Sunday things kick off at 9 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m.

• On Saturday there is the Tahoe Takeover V Show N’ Shine. Starts at 10 a.m. and will be at Pope Beach at South Lake Tahoe.

• Sunday is when the Show for Hope Show N’ Shine happens at Baldinis in Sparks. Things get rolling at 9:30 p.m. and the casino is located at the corner of Glendale and Rock in Sparks.

Another Sunday event, starting around 10 a.m. is the monthly Carson Cars and Coffee meet and cruise. The location is Dutch Brothers Coffee located at1449 South Carson Street.

The final A&W Show N’ Shine is this coming Wednesday.

• Next Wednesday is the final Show N’ Shine at the Sparks A&W, across from Reed High School. Things get rolling at 5:30, at D.J. will supply the music and it goes until closing. Very nice low key event and a chance to see some great looking cars one last time.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. American Valley Speedway in Quincy, Calif. Ends its 2019 season. Class and track championships will be confirmed at this season ending event.

To the east Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon stages it’s final points race of this season. One more chance for drivers to either secure their points positions or claim championships.

The Rattlesnake Outlaw Karts are also involved but their show begins at noon and ends early. The cars should take to the track around 6 p.m.

This weekend the Trail Blazers Motorcycle Club hosts the Moto Mouth Memorial 100 for the MRANN series. The title is a tribute to long time announcer Bob “Moto Mouth,” Cavakis, who sadly passed last fall.

Location is about 10 miles north of the Nightingale exit off I-80 east of Fernley. Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the Pee Wee then at 11 a.m. the Mini Bikes, V Women, Vintage and Bombers have their turn on the short course.

Sunday is when the big bikes get their turn starting at 10 a.m. and riders must complete the first loop to be classed as a finisher. First loop is 48 miles long while the second is 40 miles in length.

• Here is the practice schedules for the Motocross track in Northern California.

+ MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

+ E Street has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with both the front and back courses open.

+ Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday and from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

+ Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday gets rolling at 10 a.m. when NBC Sports repeats the American Flat Track race at the Springfield Mile.

Then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR America following that , over on Fox Sports 1at 3 p.m., is NASCAR Race Hub.

• This weekend NASCAR moves to Richmond, the small track that acts like a big one. NBC Sports starts Friday off with Xfinity Practice starting at 6:30 a.m. followed at 8:30 a.m. with NASCAR Cup practice,

Then at 2 p.m. the network first has Xfinity qualifying followed at 3 p.m. with NASCAR Cup qualifying and ends at 4:30 p.m. with the Xfinity race,

• Switching over to the Internet at www.fanschoice.tv at 5:45 p.m. Friday there is the Elliott Sportsman Classic from Meridian Speedway.

• Now back to TV land as Saturday is a very busy day.

ESPN News gets things rolling at 5:55 a.m. with Formula 1 qualifying from Singapore.

Then at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports has the Monster Energy Cup race from Richmond, Virginia. Another round of the Playoffs where drivers are trying to improve their position so they’ll qualify for the final four in the season ending race.

Switching back to Fans Choice at 9 a.m. they show the American Flat Track Race from the Minnesota Mile. After that the network has a bunch of short track events they’ll stream but not sure if everyone can see all of them.

• Sunday gets a very early start when www.motortrendondemand.com at 3:10 a.m. has a European Le Mans Series race from Spa. This is followed at 4:45 a.m. with two British Superbike races from Assen.

Then at 5:05 a.m. ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race from Singapore. It’s a spectacular event ran at night where part of the course actually goes under a bleacher section but this might be its final years so don’t miss it.

Then at noon NBC airs the season ending Indy Car race from Laguna Seca. Double points with four drivers having a shot at the season championship, should be a good race as one has to be inch perfect in this winding, hilly course.
