RENO, NV (Sept. 4) — While summer fades racing is very much with us as this weekend’s Racing Preview shows. There are all kinds of events taking place in and around our area including those on TV Land or on the Internet.

Also on Saturday the Iron Nation Motorcycle Club is hosting it’s 18th annual Never Forget 9/11 Ride. Sign ups begin at 9 a.m. at Wingfield Park with a ceremony at noon followed at 1 p.m. with a parade. Proceeds benefit Honor Flight.
• Sunday – Sparks Cars & Coffee has its monthly meet at Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks. Location is close to the Sparks Target store and begins around 9 a.m. Another great way to meet fellow car people and see various cars.
For the riders out there the Reno Area Dirt Riders is having a club ride that starts at Mitchell Canyon on Peavine. Check in at 8:30 a.m. with the ride starting at 10 a.m. and it is limited to 75 club members. Nice way to ride with a group and see some country.
• This weekend is when the annual Reno Balloon Races happens, it’s still a free show and is at Rancho San Rafael.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Glow Show is at 5 a.m. followed at 5:30 by the Dawn Patrol and at 7:00 a.m. there is the mass ascension. A family event if there ever was one not to mention probably the slowest racing event you’ll ever see.
The event’s website is, www.renoballoon.com.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Breaking news this week was the cancelation for the World of Outlaws sprint car race at Fernley 95A Speedway. It was originally set for Sunday, September 15.
Those that already bought tickets need to check for refunds and those that were planning on attending might want to go over the hill to one of the WOO races in Northern California.
• Diamond Mountain Speedway gets things rolling with a Friday and Saturday show as it closes out its 2019 season. The action begins at 7 p.m. each night and there are pretty good payouts for each class competing.
• Saturday begins on a somber but happy note at Wild West Motorsports Park as members of the off road racing community and friends gather to celebrate the life of racing legend Rod Hall.
The gathering begins at 10:30 a.m. with hot laps, for those wishing to pay the fee, taking place from 10:30 until 2:30 p.m.
From 4:30 until 6:30 there is a mixer with dinner from 6:30 until 8:30 when several speakers will be features. The last part, from 8:30 until 10 p.m. is for entertainment.
That evening Fernley 95A Speedway hosts another of it’s point races. As usually the action begins at 6 p.m. with hot laps followed by racing.
• Our annual Air Races get going with tech inspections and qualifying starting Monday morning and running through Wednesday morning. Then racing begins in earnest and runs through Sunday afternoon.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• This weekend NASCAR journey’s to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
• Thursday begins in TV Land when NBC Sports has NASCAR America at 2 p.m. followed at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday has an early start, at 2:35 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com has British Superbike qualifying and race #1.
Then at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. NBC Sports airs Xfinity practice from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Then at 5:55 a.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 qualifying from Monza, Italy. It’s a race every driver wants to win.
Over on NBC Sports they begin the day at 8 a.m. with NASCAR Cup practice then at 9 a.m. have Xfinity qualifying with the race being broadcast at noon.
• Switching over to the Internet where www.fanschoice.tv starts the day at 9:30 a.m. with an American Flat Track Series race from the Williams Grove Half Mile.
Then at 3 p.m. the NASCAR Whelen Modified race from Riverhead Raceway is streamed followed at 3:30 with the Hall of Fame race from Berlin Raceway. After that there are three weekly races that will be streamed.
• Sunday gets going at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN 2 broadcasts the Formula 1 race, the Grand Prix of Italy from Monza. This is a storied course all the greats have raced on and if Ferrari wins look for pandemonium to break out as the fans rush the victory area.
Back at Indianapolis NASCAR Cup qualifying starts at 7:30 a.m. on NBC Sports.
Finally at 11 a.m. the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup racers take to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for what is the Brick Yard 400 at this legendary track. Once again, it’s a race every driver wants to win because they and their crew get to enjoy a tradition Indy Car drivers started, kissing the yard of bricks at the finish line.
That’s it for this week’s Racing Preview. If possible be sure to get out and see a race, there is nothing like it and it’s way better than TV. Have a safe weekend everyone.
