RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 4 TO 7

RENO, NV (April 3) – Racing Preview this week shows how Mother Nature is still causing some delays in getting oval track racing going. However there is racing in our area and region not to mention on TV Land and the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

  • Since it’s the first weekend of the month that means Reno Cars and Coffee will have its meet Sunday, which should have good weather. It starts at 10 a.m. and the location is the Kietzke Starbucks.

It’s a great way to see some cool cars and meet fellow car people.

RACING (LOCAL AND REGIONAL):

  • Weather is the big story for this Racing Preview. Water up to two feet deep on the infield plus partially flooded pits have forced Rattlesnake Raceway to cancel its opener for the second time.

Now the opening date has been moved to Saturday, April 20 when the Outlaw Karts will also start their season. Racing is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and there is a driver meet and greet during the intermission.

•    Over in Fernley the local Old Timers chapter is hosting a national round of their series. The location is at the Sandbox as the Fernley Motocross track is usually called.

There should be practice around 8 a.m. followed by racing around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Riders will race in three motos the first day then two the second day with their overall finishes counting for the final standings.

•    Further to the east Battle Born MX is hosting the second round of its spring series. This time the action will be in Winnemucca with practice Saturday then after a short practice Sunday racing will follow.

•  Sunday should have great weather and that’s when the Northern Nevada Kart Club begins its 2019 season. The location is Desert Park Raceway and the action usually begins around 10 a.m. when the first heat race begins.

  • Over the hill MMX Racing is still planning on running round three of this year’s Am Shootout. However weather could play a factor so one should call their hotline, 530-419-5200, before heading out.

•    With a storm expected REP Racing MX has closed all three of its tracks, E Street, River Front and Prairie City through Friday. The hotline, 1-775-265-223, will have an update probably late Friday afternoon.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

  • This week’s Racing Preview has a bunch on TV Land as well as some streaming across the Internet and there is something for just about any racing fan.

•    Thursday is thin but at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub as two series head for the high banks of Bristol.

•    Friday begins on Fox Sports 1 at noon with Xfinity practice followed by other sessions and at 3 p.m. the NASCAR Cup drivers qualify.

This week NHRA visits Las Vegas and at 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports one broadcasts Friday Night Nitro Live.

Over on the Internet at www.motortrendondemand.com among other races are streaming a Virgin Australian Supercar event from Symmons Plains. Broadcast times are 7:45 p.m. with the first race at 11:15.

•    Saturday begins early at 6:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs Xfiinity qualifying followed at 10 a.m. with the race. It’s always amazing to watch these cars whip around the bullring that is Bristol.

At 11:30 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has Moto America from Road Atlanta then at 1 p.m. NBC Sports has Indy Car qualifying from Barber Motorsports Park followed at 5 p.m. by AMA Supercross from Nashville.

Back to the Internet as www.fanschoice.tv streams three races starting at noon with the Ice Breaker from Thompson Speedway. Then at 1 p.m. the K&N Pro East racers go at Bristol and finally at 4 p.m. there is a race from Langely Speedway.

Over at Motor Trend on Demand race number 2 from the Australian Supercar event is streamed at 8:40 p.m.

•    Sunday gets rolling at 11 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Bristol. This is akin to rocket ships in a bathtub and there is usually a bunch of rubbing and sometimes punting during this event.

That’s it for this weekend’s Racing Preview. Hopefully next weekend Mother Nature will smile us so area two oval tracks can get their seasons started.
