RENO, NV (March 20) — Racing Preview gets spring started with the first oval track race in our area plus an off road event as well as schedules for TV Land and the Internet. Only variable will be how much rain we get on Saturday.
CARS & CRUISES:
- This month Carson Cars & Coffee has changed the time of its meet and cruise. Things get started at 8 p.m. Friday and the location is Dutch Brothers Coffee located at 1231 South Carson Street.
• The Electric Auto Association of Northern Nevada is hosting a tour of the National Auto Museum in Reno. The date is Saturday, March 23rd from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m. and there is an admission charge.
RACING (REGIONAL):
- The first oval track race in our area is scheduled for Saturday 6 p.m. at the Fernley 95A Speedway.
While weather might play a part in the evening, rain if it’s not too long, makes this track lightening fast so should be a good show.
• To the east the Cheaters and Rimbenders Motorcycle clubs are staging the next MRANN race. It’s the Moto Mouth Mayhem 100 in honor of Bob “Moto Mouth,” Cavakis, who passed away last fall.
Saturday begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by the V-Women, Minis and Bombers race that begins at 11 a.m. and uses a hare scrambles format. Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. the big bikes get their turn as they race on a 50-mile loop where a rider has to complete one loop to be classed as a finisher.
• Over the hill the second round of this year’s Amateur Shootout continues as the Argyll MX track located south of Dixon, California. For further information please check out www.argyllmx.com.
• Right now the status of two of the three MX tracks is in doubt but the Spring Fling 1st round at Prairie City will go on even if it’s muddy. For further information please check the hot line at 1-775-265-7223.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• NASCAR is back in the Southeast following it western swing. Good news is that Las Vegas native scored his 200th victory, a combined total from all three series he competes in.
• Thursday begin at 2 p.m. as NBC Sports has NASCAR America followed by Fox Sports 1 airing NASCAR Race Hub.
If you want reruns then check out www.mavtv.com as they do have a bunch of events.
• Friday is very slim although the Formula E race from China will be broadcast starting at 11:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
If one has NBC Sports Gold they can see Indy Car practice at 8:15 a.m. and noon from the Circuit of the Americas.
• Racing Preview shows Saturday getting off to an early start with NASCAR Cup practice starting at 6:30 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 followed by truck qualifying.
The Gander Outdoors Truck Series race begins at 11 a.m. at Martinsville followed at 2 p.m. by NASCAR Cup qualifying.
Then at 7 p.m. NBC Sports has AMA Supercross action from Seattle.
Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv for Saturday streams two events.
The first is the American Flat Track race from Dixie Speedway starting at 5 p.m. followed by the Double Trouble race from Tucson Speedway.
• Racing Preview has Sunday getting off to another early start as CBS Sports, starting at 9 a.m. has FIM Motocross Championship followed by Snowmobile racing
Over on NBC Sports, starting at 10 a.m. it’s Indy Car action from the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. I believe they use the same course as Formula 1 but not sure.
At 11:30 Fox Sports broadcasts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from the “Paperclip,” or Martinsville Speedway. The race is a test of patience and saving the car but that doesn’t always happen so it can be an action packed event.
That’s it for this weekend, if you have a chance please get out and go see a live race. There is nothing like it and your support means a lot to our local tracks and the racers.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
- The report about our first motocross race of the season has been delayed. BBMX has switched to a transponder scoring system and, as expected, there were a few problems that held up getting the results out. As a result the report should be out Thursday or Friday morning.
Remember to tune in, stream or watch Teresa’s Garage Radio Show from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday. The show covers all things automotive with a slant toward women.
I have a preview section at 2:15 and hopefully will have my voice back. You can also watch us as we are live on Face Book hope you’ll check out the program.
