RENO, NV (March 16) – Racing Preview for this week highlights two different car meets, a major off-road racing show, first race in our area plus national and international events. Going to be an action packed weekend for race fans.
CAR MEETS & CRUISING:
- There is an electric car meet from 9 a.m. until 11 Saturday. Location is Glory Cloud Coffee at 10 Greg Street in Sparks.

• Over at the Robb Drive Starbucks on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Reno Cars and Coffee will host its next meet. A great way to meet fellow car people or to just see some very different cars.
This weekend’s weather should be great and be sure to bring a camera or smart phone as usually there are some pretty good cars to get pictures.
- This weekend is the 10th annual Off-Road Motorsports Expo part of the annual Reno Expo 2019 at the Convention Center. Besides many off-road vendors there will be displays by the Northern Nevada Kart Club and usually by the Reno Region of the Sports Car Club of America.
For the off-road community several booths are manned by organizations dedicated to making sure the public has access to public lands here in Nevada and other western states.
Hours are 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Saturday’s show runs from 11 until 9 p.m.
RACING (LOCAL AND REGIONAL:
- Battle Born MX with the Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang is staging the first race of BBMX’s spring series.
Saturday practice is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. then Sunday gates open at 6 a.m. with the first gate drop slated for 9 a.m. The local OTHG has done some major upgrades to the facility as well as reworked the track.
SPECIAL NOTE: BBMX is transponder scoring so riders planning to compete should first register at www.iraceready.com. Then at signup they’ll be assigned a transponder.
Signing up early will make a rider’s day much easier.
• Over the hill in Northern California all four motocross tracks will have practice sessions this week and weekend.
MMX in Marysville has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday with the Main, sand and kid’s tracks being open. Sunday is a ride day for OSMX on the vintage track while there will be practice on the main, sand and kid’s track from 9 until 3 p.m.
Rep Racing MX has their three tracks open as well. Riverfront has practice on Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Prairie City has practice Thursday from 2 until 6 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
- Racing Preview has coverage jumping back and forth from the Internet to TV Land this weekend. And there is both a classic endurance race as well as an international series starting its season.
• Thursday starts at 5:55 a.m. on ESPN 3 with Formula 1 practice from Melbourne.
Switching over to www.fanschoice.tv at 9:35 a.m. there is IMSA Prototype Challenge from Sebring. Then at 10 a.m. it’s the American Flat Track Daytona TT.
Back to TV Land as at 10:55 p.m. there is another Formula 1 practice.
• Racing Preview has the final leg of NASCAR’s annual western swing this time from Fontana, California.
Fox Sports 1 at 1:35 p.m. gets Friday going with Xfinity practice followed at 2:40 with NASCAR Cup qualifying. Over on www.imsa.tv there is IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship qualifying at Sebring.
Then at 7:55 p.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 practice followed on ESPN 2 with qualifying.
• Saturday gets rolling on Fox Sports 1 at 9:55 a.m. with Xfinity practice, then qualifying and finally the race at 2 p.m.
Switching back to the Internet on Fans Choice at 10 a.m. this year’s Daytona 200 Superbike race will be broadcast. Amazing to watch the riders riding close to the wall at the top of the high banks at Daytona International Speedway.
Then back to TV Land as the 12 Hours of Sebring begins at 7:30 a.m. on CNBC then at 10 a.m. switches to NBS Sports Live and at noon over to NBC Sports for the rest of the race.
Later NBC Sports airs on a same day delayed basis the AMA Supercross action from Indianapolis.The day ends starting at 10:05 p.m. when ESPN airs the Australian Grand Prix from Melbourne as the Formula 1 globe trotting series starts.
- Sunday at 12:30 p.m. has Fox broadcasting the Auto Club 400 from Fontana, California as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup stars take to the track. After that the series heads back to its home in the Southeast.
Later that afternoon, at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports, on a same day delayed broadcast, has the 50th annual NHRA Gaternationals from Gainsville, Florida. Funny Car star John Force has already announced he want’s to win this weekend.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
- Over a week ago Carson City native and sprint car driver Thanner Thorson was involved in a wreck over in California. He suffered major injuries including a punctured lung so is still there recovering at a relatives.
