RENO, NV (Feb. 18) – Season Preview this time concerns 4-wheeled off-road scene here in Northern Nevada. With two exceptions all the events are for trucks, buggies and UTVs and most happen east of Sparks at the Wild West Motorsports Park
The first exception is the May 4th IRC Endurofest as this event is for motorcycles.
Starting in front of the bleachers rider take off and face a course with varying degrees of difficulty. Each class even has a time limit to complete the stages.
Returning to the main course riders are presented with some interesting obstacles they have to get over before reaching the finish line.
It’s a one-day event full of great action. For further information please check their page at www.facebook.com/elevatedactionsports/.
Moving along in the Season Preview the next event is the weekend of June 1st and 2nd, which brings a double header to Wild West.
Saturday is for those competing in the NorCal Rock Racing series. They will offer a mix of trucks, buggies and UTVs challenging the course.
For further invormation and the series schedule please check their website at www.norcalrockracing.com.
Then Sunday the newly reborn VORRA series takes to the dirt with their buggies, trucks and UTV’s as well. This is the first of two events they have this year in Northern Nevada.
A week later a very different event visits the Park as those competing in the Super Crawl World Championship take to the rocks on the left side of the pit entrance road.
What this event lacks in speed it more than makes up for in technical challenges. Sometimes competitors, and observers, are faced with negotiating vertical rock faces or going sideways along other steep sections.
Each run is timed and has penalty points awarded so it’s like golf where the one with the lowest score wins. Almost no one emerges without some penalty points
For further information on the event please check out, www.supercrawl.rocks.
Then there is a break until the NorCal Rock Racing returns with a side-by-side event on July 20th. The UTV classes are the fastest growing in off-road racing and this event is just for them.
Next in the Season Review is on July 27 when the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series returns. This time it’s a night race, which should bring those huge lighting trucks that turn night into almost daylight.
Although the event is televised it’s a chance for everyone to see these drivers live. They all like the elevation changes, big air and speeds at Wild West Motorsports Park.
Further information on the series is at www.lucasoiloffroad.com.
Next in the Season Preview is the only desert race this year for VORRA, the Fallon 250.
The date is July 26/27 and the slowest competitors have 24 hours to complete the entire length. However the fastest trucks and buggies will only need a fraction of that time to get their laps in.
Next year VORRA plans a second desert race on Labor Day weekend, when the series used to have its final desert race of the season in our region. For further information please check, www.facebook.com/vorraracing.
Another exception where motorcycles are racing is the mid-August General Tire Vegas to Reno Presented by FOX returns. The actual course ends and Dayton but someday, if possible, someday it might go all the way to Wild West Motorsports Park.
Not only are the usual trucks and buggies racing but so are motorcycles that are launched first. The event is staged by Best in the Desert series and their website is, www.bitd.com.
The off-road season here ends on October 19 when the Nitto Ultra 4 National Championship event visits Wild West Motorsports Park. These are the same competitors that race at the King of the Hammers event.
Many of the classes not only race on the track but go up and around the hill on the east side. Then they also race down about 300 feet or so of rocks before negotiating a field of small boulders placed in front of the north bleachers.
To say it’s action packed would be a total under statement. There are restricted classes as well as UTV’s that run on a short course but still go through the rocks in front of the bleachers.
The day and season ends when the 4400’s cars get their chance in a blazing finale. It’s an event any race fan wants to see live.
For further information please go to www.ultra4racing.com.
Once again Wild West Motorsports Park is the center for most of this action and is a great place to watch these events. For more information about the facility please check their website at, www.wildwestmotorsportspark.com.
The next Season Preview will focus on oval tracks in our region.
