RENO, NV (Feb. 13) – Racing Preview this week has the first race of the season in our region and NASCAR’s season opener. Also are what’s being streamed on the Internet and other races.
CAR MEETS/CRUISES:
- Since it’s the third weekend of the month Reno Cars & Coffee hosts its meet at the Robb Drive Starbucks. As usual 10 a.m. is the start time of this meet that usually ends around noon.
RACING (REGIONAL):
- This week’s Racing Preview highlights the first race of the season as MRANN begins its season. The Tankslappers club is the host and they honored the late Bob Cavakis by naming the 21st annual Hare & Hound the Moto Mouth Memorial 100.
As usual the location is about 10-miles north of the Nightingale exit east of Fernley on I-80.
Saturday starts at 10 a.m. with the Pee Wee riders followed at 11 a.m. with the Mini Bikes, V Women and Bombers on a short course. The big bikes have their turn Sunday starting at 10 a.m. on the long course, as usual a rider must complete one of the two laps to be considered a finisher.
REPORTER’S NOTE: I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. DUE TO THE CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD FROM THIS STORMS WE’RE HAVING THE MOTO MOUTH MEMORIAL 100 HAS BEEN CANCELED. THEY HOPE TO RESCHEDULE IT AT A LATER DATE.
• Over the hill in Northern California things could be a bit iffy due to the incoming storm.
On Wednesday evening MMX didn’t have anything but figure they weren’t going to have anything this weekend. However their phone is 530-419-5200.
Checking in with REP Racing all three tracks, E Street, Riverfront and Prairie City are closed through Friday. The hotline will be updated on Friday so the fate of this weekend’s race at Riverfront will be revealed at that time.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
- Racing Preview highlights the start of NASCAR’s season with four days of action at the Daytona International Speedway plus some Internet offerings.
• Thursday gets rolling at 11:30 a.m. as Fox Sports 2 has practice sessions then at 2:30 Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Day at Daytona.
Sunday’s qualifying for the NASCAR Cup teams only sets the front row for the Daytona 500. Today the Duels will set the rest of the field.
Fox Sports 1 has both races with the first Duel beginning at 4 p.m. followed at 6 p.m. with the second Duel.
Over on the Internet at 4 p.m., www.fanschoice.tv has night 7 of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing from New Smyrna Speedway.
• Friday on Racing Preview begins at 10 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has Cup practice followed by Xfinity practice then at 1:30 p.m. the Gander Outdoors Truck Series qualifies for their race at 4:30 p.m.
Over on Fans Choice, at 4 p.m. they stream the eighth night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing from New Smyrna.
• Saturday has a early start at 6:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 first has Xfinity qualifying followed at 11:30 as that series races on the high banks of Daytona.
The international race on Racing Preview is when Fox Sports 2 at 12:30 p.m. has Formula E qualifying then at 1:30 p.m. the race from Mexico City.
Back to the Internet at 4 p.m. when Fans Choice has the ninth night race from the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
Then at 5:30 p.m. NBC Sports has this week’s AMA Supercross event from Arlington, Texas.
• Sunday is the big day as Fox, staring at 11:30 a.m. airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup teams racing in the Great American Race, the Daytona 500.
Earlier CBS Sports at 8 a.m. has Snowmobile racing while at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has Monster Jam.
