RENO, NV (Feb. 2) – The Fall Series awards banquet for BBMX (Battle Born MX) was held at the Boomtown Casino west of Reno. This meant everyone there was warm and dry despite the wet weather that day.
A boat load of trophies, created by MX Trophies, were ready to be handed out as well as t-shirts, hoodies and champion’s jackets. All the class champions also got gift cards.
In addition there was a table full of raffle prizes that included about everything a rider might want. Added to that were grand prizes that included a full set of gear, an Ezup, pressure washer, some gift certificates from Boomtown and other things as well.
There was also a separate raffle that only had 250 tickets for a chance to win at 140cc pit bike for the grandest prize of all.
The MC for the event was Dana Losey and after lunch he made some remarks about changes that are coming. Then he had a first raffle session.
The amount of trophies for each class was determined by the amount of riders that participated in that division. Up first were places fifth through third where the winners also got a BBMX t-shirt.
After that group was taken care of it was time for more raffle prizes.
Then it was time for the trophies awarded to those riders that finished second place. This time each of them got a BBMX hoodie to wear.
Finally it was time to hand out the first place or class champion’s trophies. Each champion not only got a trophy but a champion’s jacket as well.
At the bottom end of the age scale were the Pee Wee or 50cc riders. They were Wyatt Berrington (Beginner) Keegan Brocchini (Jr.) and Jaiden Roberts who ended up winning both the Intermediate and Open classes.
At the other end of the age scale in the 52+ Class the winners were Troy Decker (Jr.) and David Thomas (Interm.).
Michael Jepsen won the 250/450F pro title for the fall series. Over in the Women’s class Lucy Moran won in the “A” group while Hannah Munoz was the “B” winner.
Among the winner there was one young rider the claimed a triple, Rogan Hill won the title in three different 85cc classes.
Then it was time for the grand prizes. After those the big prize, a pit bike, was to be given away and one happy rider went home with that. Then all the first place champions posed for a group photo as the banquet ended.
One of those in attendance came all the way from Winnemucca. “Bemo” Herrera runs the track out there and after the awards made some comments about last season as well as what he’s looking forward to in 2019.
“Last year was really good and people loved the track,” he said. “We’re going to flip the track this year so we’re looking to promote safe motocross riding, a good time and hopefully we’ll get a great turn out through the BBMX series. Everybody loves our motocross track and we really appreciate them coming out.”
Then after taking care of some last minute things Losey was able to comment and thank the banquet’s hosts.
“Boomtown was awesome, they really took care of us and set up everything perfect. They had out BBMX colors in napkins up there so it really kind of set the tone for us, they had great food for us, plenty of it and then at the end they donated $250 worth of product to go through their steak house and the fun center. So we were able to give those away and add them to the grand prize awards so that was really awesome,” he said.
He also explained some of the changes BBMX will have this coming season.
“So for this next year we’re also going to one full series, that covers the whole year with a break in the middle for the summer and what that does is allow us to have one banquet at the end of the year similar to what MRANN does and be able to really put on a good banquet,” he said.
Losey was very pleased with the banquet and is looking forward to next season.
“We just had a wonderful banquet we had I think 79 award winners, we raffled off a 140 pit bike, which is really cool, we also had I believe over $10,000 in awards that were given out along with raffle prizes,” he said. “We had a great year, we had awesome turn outs, more participation per class so we had more trophy winners for each class. We’re just looking forward to doing it all again this year, starting in the middle of March going forward and having even more success.”
The first six-race series begins on the weekend of March16 & 17 at the Sandbox in Fernley. From there the series goes on the road for races in Winnemucca and Carlin before returning to Fernley before the last race in Winnemucca.
The next seven races are still being worked on but those dates should be out soon.
