RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY – AWARDS BANQUET

FALLON, NV (Oct.13) – Rattlesnake Raceway ended its 2018 season with the annual awards banquet. There was a raffle plus a lot of hardware and awards to hand out that evening.

LARA president Chris Lumsden got things rolling by calling out groups to start enjoying the buffet that was ready. After dinner things got quiet and he began the awards part of the evening.

The first group to pickup their trophies, including the championship jackets, were the youngest that race the Rattlesnake Outlaw Karts. Adult champions also get a championship jacket to go with their trophy

He began with Alexis McBroom, the Beginner champion, then the Box Stock champ Guage Felzke. After that the 250 champ Brysyn Simeral Herron and ending with Jacob Dias, the 500cc champion

There were also special kart awards and a trio of young racers got the “Most Improved award,” while Dias was given the Sportsmanship award.

A trio of Outlaw Kart drivers earned the Most Improved award an they were Henry Hitchock, Kiley Detomasi and Aiden Albury (L to R).

Along with the cars were the Mad Metal Mud Drag winners although their presentation was divided in half.

Lumsden pointed out that many of the car classes and awards are named for people that have contributed to the track and organization over the years.

One of the awards was named for a young woman that used to work the pit entrance where everyone signs in. Sadly she suddenly passed away a few years ago leaving a very young son, who is now being raised by her parents

So this year the Stephanie Benham Most Appreciated Volunteer award went to the Tuttle and Juhl families.

When the 2018 season ended the track champion for the IMCA class was Andy Strait. He and his wife tow all the way from Spring Creek just outside Elko.

Andy Strait and his wife Nicole stand with his champion jacket and trophy after winning the IMCA title.

For Strait it marked the end of a very busy year as he raced over 40 times this past season

“We won the track championship here at Rattlesnake Raceway and we won the track championship at Battle Mountain Raceway,” he said.

In addition to those two titles Strait is this year’s Nevada IMCA champion.

Asked about this season and the title he said, “Actually it came down to the last race. At the end of the season we (Dave Sciarroni) were always close. For the Rattlesnake points I believe it was nine but in Battle Mountain it was different 80 points.”

But at Rattlesnake when the final checkered flag waved Strait had 457 points while Sciarroni finished the season with 443 points.

So Strait earned the Sam Bradley IMCA trophy as well as the champion’s jacket.

Another somewhat close title battle was in the Jim Baglin Hobby Stock class where Dan Dias edged out David Ausano for the title.

Rattlesnake Raceway

Dan Dias won the Hobby Stock championship by only one point over Dave Ausano.

Talk about a squeaker, Dias won by only one point to take the championship in the closest finish of the year.

Going down the list Robert Crane was the Mini Stock champion as he scored eight more points than runner up Jesse Showe.

In Mod Mini or Super Stock 4, as they are sometimes called, the champion was Jesse James, who had the largest margin of victory as he had 34 points over second place Kevin Reuter.

Wade Lumsden earned the Sprint Car title as well as the Mark Lee Hard Luck award, which was a power coated destroyed wheel.

Other award winners were Josh Evans in Mini Stock as he got the Cornu Family Most Improved Driver plaque and Dan Dias, who earned the Dennis Kim Best Sportsmanship award.

Over the past few years the Mad Metal mud drag series has found a home at Rattlesnake. These races are as short as the mud is deep.

Anyone standing too close to the action is sure to go home with a bit more than a light coating of mud on them.

Rattlesnake Raceway

Dylan Hoffman won the Stock V-8 class championship racing with a V-6 motor.

Their champions are listed in the results for all five of their classes. Unfortunately the Pro Modified champion Byran Lewis did not attend the banquet as he was in Southern Nevada that night.

Now Rattlesnake Raceway is dark until next March when it will echo with the sounds of racing and celebrate the coming of spring.

REPORTERS NOTE: There is a photo gallery after the results.

Dale I do not know. Only thing I got were the points from 2018.
However when I’m at the awards banquet then I should know and hope
to have a photo of that person.
