RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 28 TO JULY 1

RENO, NV (JUNE 27) – With the July 4th holiday coming up there is racing to watch, attend and enjoy for the weekend. If not racing then cruising and car shows can also be things to enjoy.

CRUISE AND CAR SHOWS:

This week’s Thursday cruise in Carson City, from 5 until 7:30 p.m. will start at Buffalo Wild Wings located at 3815 S. Carson Street.

Summit Racing Car Show.

Summit Racing’s Cruise In brings a variety of cars to be shown on Friday evenings.

Friday’s Cruise In at Summit Racing in Sparks runs from 6 until 8 p.m. and is a great way to show off and see some great looking cars in the parking lot.

Saturday brings two shows with the closest being the Freedom Festival Car Show at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks.

Iron Rebels Car Show

To the south in Carson City is a car show to benefit the Life/Am Cancer Society. It’s the Iron Rebel’s Show, from noon to 7 p.m. located at 3600 Challenger Way, by the airport.

On Tuesday, July 3rd, 103.7 The River will host a car show at the Morning Star Senior Living in Sparks. The location is at 2360 Wingfield Hills Road and is a great way to show off your car to those that usually can’t get to these events.

There will also be a Cruise Night starting at 5 p.m. on the 4th of July at the Sparks A&W located at 1311 Baring Blvd.

RACING (Regional):

On Friday Winnemucca Regional Speedway is scheduled to have racing with a 7 p.m. start time.

Friday and Saturday is when Fernley 95A Speedway hosts another of its “Dust in the Desert,” series. There is a party Friday and things get going after a driver’s meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Three oval tracks are in operation Saturday.

To the north Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California will have racing with a 6 p.m. start time.

To the east Lovelock Speedway, starting at 7 p.m. has cars as well as a visit from the Northern Nevada Winged Sprint Cars.

And finally to the south Tonopah Speedway, at 7 p.m. also has racing.

Motocross racers have another event in the I-80 Challenge series at Winnemucca this weekend. Saturday’s practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. then on Sunday practice is at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start to the motos.

For those wishing to get in some practice three motocross tracks in Northern California will have sessions.

Riverfront has their sessions from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

E Street MX Park has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with both tracks available.

Rattlesnake Raceway

Next Wednesday, July 4th, Rattlesnake Raceway hosts its traditional races that includes the town’s fire works show during the intermission. A fun time at a great show.

RACING (National and International):

Over in TV Land Thursday is again very slim for live shows although there are several reruns of previous races. And as of this weekend NBC Sports begins carrying the NASCAR events.

NASCAR America will air at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports followed on Fox Sports 1 by the ARCA race from Chicagoland Speedway.

On Friday NBC Sports comes back at 1:30 p.m. with Xfinity Series practice followed at 2:30 with qualifying for the trucks then at 6 p.m. they’ll broadcast the Camping World Truck Series race from Chicagoland.

Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv at 10:35 a.m. has IMSA Weathertech qualifying from Watkins Glen.

Saturday is going to be a busy day back in TV Land. Things begin at 8:30 a.m. as NBC Sports has NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfinity practice qualifying.

Then at 12:30 p.m. the network airs the Xfinity race from Chicagoland followed at 4 p.m. by NASCAR Cup qualifying.

Once again the Pro Motocross event, at Southwick, has split coverage. The first motos starting at 10 a.m. are on MAVTV while the second motos will air at 5 p.m. on NBC Sports.

Back over at Fanschoice.tv there are several events that will be streamed.

At 8:25 a.m. they’ll stream the IMCA Weathertech Sports Car qualifying from Watkins Glen followed by the IMSA Continental race at 10:45 a.m.

Then at 11 a.m. there is the Indian Motorcycle Lima Half Mile flat track race. This is followed starting at 3:30 p.m. by races from Berlin Raceway, Langely Speedway and Meridian Speedway.

Formula One

This week the Formula One stars compete in the Grand Prix of Austria.

Sunday starts early at 6:05 a.m. as ESPN 2 shows the Formula One race from Austria.

At 6:30 a.m. Fox Sports One has the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Watkins Glen.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event from Chicagoland begins at 11:30 a.m. and marks the debut of Dale Earnhart Jr. as an announcer. Finally at noon CBS Sports has the World Challenge race run last weekend from Road America.

That’s it for now but if you can do go out and see a race live as there is nothing like it for color, speed and excitement. If not be sure to take in one of the several cars shows happening in our area.
