RENO (March 21) – Weather is the big story for this week in the Racing Preview. It is affecting several tracks in California and at least one event in this region.
The Racing Preview also has what’s going on nationally as well as internationally.
This weekend gets off to a rousing start up in Virginia City at 4 p.m. as the annual Pre-Race Drawing Party gets this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix going. The place is the Red Dog Saloon and VCMC is asking those that have them to bring up their vintage bikes so they can be displayed.
Winnemucca Regional Speedway had hoped to get the oval track season going but due to incoming weather has canceled the two-day the High Desert Classic Shootout.
However this weekend’s Battle Born MX races, which is at the Winnemucca track is still a go. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is for racing.
Another Friday/Saturday event, which could be affected by the weather is the “Dust In The Desert,” off road event at the Fernley 95A Speedway. Friday is for camping, there will be a DJ and bonfire then Saturday begins with sign ups at 8 a.m. followed at 10 a.m. by a driver’s meeting.
REPORTERS NOTE: Minutes after posting I found that NNKC had cancelled their track clean up and open practice tot he second week in April. So here is the correction.
The Northern Nevada Kart Club is planning on starting its season first with a track clean up from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday. Then from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday the club will have its traditional open practice for all classes.
In addition to the practice Jacob Ciari will host a racing seminar to review the basics for new and old drivers. Things like flags, a track walk and other subjects will be included.
Weather is going to be a factor for the three Motocross tracks in Northern California as they are closed this week.
How much rain they get will determine if there will be a March Madness race or practice sessions.
There should be an update Friday on the hotline, which is 1-775-265-7223. Be sure to call before packing up and heading out.
Another series is supposed to begin this weekend but weather might be a factor there as well. It’s the 2018 Amateur Shootout and the first round is at the Argyll MX track in Dixon, California.
Once again weather is the determining factor so its best to check www.argyllmx.com for further information.
Switching to TV Land it’s pretty slim on Thursday but NBC Sports at 2 p.m. will have NASCAR America while an hour later at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the NASCAR Race Hub program.
This week NASCAR is at the smallest track on the circuit, Martinsville or the Paper Clip as it’s also known.
Friday begins at 10:05 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has Camping World Truck practice. Over on ESPN News at 10 a.m. there will be Formula 1 practice followed at 11 p.m. with qualifying but that’s on ESPN 2.
NASCAR Cup practice gets Saturday rolling at 7:05 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 and that is followed by truck qualifying then the Camping World Truck race at 11 a.m. NASCAR Cup qualifying is at 2 p.m.
Switching to the two-wheeled set, Fox Sports 1 at 3:30 p.m. will broadcast the Monster Energy AMA Supercross event from the dome at Indianapolis.
Later in the evening, at 10:55 p.m. ESPN 2 will have the season opening Formula 1 race from Melbourne, Australia. The long winter’s wait for those fans will finally come to an end.
Sunday’s action begins at 11 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. This short track event usually has a lot of action but puts a premium on a driver saving their brakes.
That’s it for now have a safe weekend and best wishes to all the racers out there.
