RENO, NV (Aug. 30) – Racing preview for this week has a mixed menu. In this region most of the oval tracks are dark although there is a big off road race. Over in TV and Internet land there are some major events to watch or stream.
The major race in our area is the Fallon 250 desert race out at Salt Wells, about 35 miles or so east of Fallon. This year there is a new title sponsor for the event P.C.I Race Radios.
As usual Saturday is a two-stage event with the production classes starting at 6 a.m. with an 8-hour time limit. Then at 7 a.m. the remaining VORRA classes, including buggies and UTV’s are sent off with a 7-hour time limit.
Depending on how long it takes for the course to be cleared the fast guys, the 4400’s are sent off at 2 p.m. with an 8-hour time limit.
The award ceremonies will be held after each group is finished. One example is the 4400 awards, which will be given out at 8 p.m.
It’s going to be a long, hot day for those teams. Supposed to be 100 that day.
The same evening to the south, the Tonopah Speedway is staging another of its points races.
Over the hill there is some big news for those planning on racing at Riverfront on Saturday. Due to the extreme heat expected the race has been canceled and rescheduled for September 23rd.
However Riverfront will have practice Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
E Street MX Park will also have practice sessions from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Over at Prairie City there will be practice Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. then from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Over in TV Land things are kind of slow on Thursday although Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub at 3 p.m. and of course MAVTV has a host of reruns.
Friday begins early at 5 a.m. as NBC Sports has Formula 1 practice from Monza, Italy. Then at 9 a.m. the network begins a long series of airing Xfinity and NASCAR Cup practice sessions.
Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has a TORC Off Road Championship race from Crandon, Wisconsin.
It’s another 5 a.m. start to Saturday as NBC Sports has Formula 1 qualifying from the classic course at Monza. Then at 9 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA qualifying at the U.S. Nationals from Indianapolis.
Then at 9:05 a.m. NBC Sports starts a series beginning with Xfinity qualifying then NASCAR Cup qualifying and finally at 12:30 p.m. the Xfinity race from Darlington, South Carolina.
Not to be left out Fanschoice.tv has another TORC race from Crandon starting at 8 a.m. then at 1 p.m. there is an American Flat Track race from the Springfield mile. Finally the network streams a race beginning at 7 p.m. from Tucson Speedway, the Double Trouble event.
The Grand Prix of Italy from Monza gets Sunday off to a fast start at 4 a.m. on NBC Sports. Then at 10:30 a.m. the network airs the Indy Car race from Watkins Glen, New York, which might be affected by rain from Hurricane Harvey.
At 11 a.m. Fox Sports one has the Camping World Truck Series race from Canada then at 2 p.m. the network airs more qualifying from the NHRA U.S. Nationals. The FIA World Endurance race from Mexico begins at 2 p.m. on Fox Sports 2.
Finally the NASCAR Cup stars get to face the “Lady in Black,” or Darlington as they compete in the Labor Day classic, the Southern 500. The race begins at 3 p.m. and be shown on NBC Sports.
With the Labor Day weekend there are two events being shown and streamed on Monday.
Fanschoice.tv gets things rolling at 8 a.m. with another American Flat Track event from the Springfield Mile. Then starting at 10 a.m. FOX will have the NHRA U.S. Nationals, one race every drag race driver wants to win.
