RENO, NV (Aug. 23) – This week we have another national event visiting our area plus regional racing. Over in TV World there are several events but some series are off before the big Labor Day weekend.
The major event will be at Wild West Motorsports Park, located off I-80 east of Sparks. It’s the return of the Lucas Oil Off Road Series with two days of action on this fast, yet hilly course.
Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday as the off road stars work both for good finishes, if not wins and gaining more points since their season is beginning to wind down. A few weeks from now the show will be aired on MAVTV.
To the east Top Gun Raceway starts their weekend off with $5 Fridays where people can tune and test their cars on the dragstrip.
On Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. the ET series, Junior Dragster series will run their 9th round while the ET Challenge series has its fourth round.
This week is also the annual MORPAR Challenge where cars both 8-and 6-cylinder ones race but there is also a BBQ for the entrants. Should be a busy time out there.
Saturday has two oval tracks in operation with Rattlesnake Raceway, located just east of downtown Fallon, starting its night at 6 p.m. and the racing card has cars, mud drags as well as a visit from the Nevada Pro Stock Association.
Down in Feather River country American Valley Speedway, in Quincy, California has its regular program with a 7 p.m. start time.
For those wanting some throttle time with their motocross bikes three tracks in Northern California have practice sessions while one more has a race.
The MMX track hosts its second “Saturday Nights Under The Lights,” race as a new night track. It’s located in Marysville, California and their website is, www.mmxracing..
Three other tracks have practice sessions as Prairie City has Thursday night practice from 4 until 8 p.m. then from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Riverfront has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. but Saturday is for the Sierra Old Timers and their session runs from 4 until 9 p.m. Over at the E Street MX park they have practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Over in TV Land, well Thursday is a bit slow for the networks. NBC Sports, at 2 p.m. airs NASCAR America while Fox Sports, at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub.
MAVTV will also have a bunch of programs in the “Rerun Zone.”
Friday gets an early 5 a.m. start as NBC Sports has Formula 1 practice from the wickedly fast course at Spa in Belgium. The series is coming off its annual mandated summer break.
Over on www.fanschoice.tv at 3:30 p.m. there will be a short track race streamed from Berlin Raceway.
Things get busy Saturday, once again starting at 5 a.m. as CNBC has live coverage of Formula 1 qualifying. Then at 11 a.m. NBC Sports has Xfinity practice from Road America at Elkhart Lake followed at 1 p.m. with final practice for the cars.
This week the Pro Motocross series visits the course at Crawfordsville and, once again has split coverate. MAVTV will air the first motos beginning at 10 a.m. then at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs the second set of motos.
Then at 6:30 p.m. NBC Sports broadcasts the Indy Car race from Gateway. Over on the Internet at 4:30 p.m. Fanschoice.tv has a short track race from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Sunday gets going at 4:30 a.m. with the Formula 1 race from Spa on NBC Sports. Then at 10:30 a.m., Fox Sports 1 has the IMSA Weather Tech sports car race from Virginia International Raceway.
This week’s NASCAR race has the Xfinity series tackling the road course at Road American and the event starts at 11:30 a.m. on NBC.
Not to be outdone CBS Sports has a long line events starting with the Mobil 1 The Grid show at 10 a.m. followed by Power Boat racing, Formula Drift Insider, Lamborghini Super Trofeo series and the Blancpain GT Sprint series. After that several programs will repeat themselves.
That’s it for this weekend, so if possible please try to attend a live race as there is nothing like it for excitement, color and speed. And you’ll also be supporting your favorite drivers as well as the track.
