RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 3 TO 6

RENO (Aug. 2) – Racing preview for this weekend has a couple of special events in our area and one of them leads into a fun week here in the Reno/Sparks area. And in TV Land and on the Internet there are more interesting events.

First one of this site’s sponsors has a special two-day event as Reno Motor Sports (RMS) has its annual tent sale. Even though its hot racing and riding will soon get going as soon as the heat breaks so it’s a good time to get ready.

To the east Lovelock celebrates its 100th anniversary with Frontier Days and the Lovelock Speedway has two nights of racing that include a kid’s bike give away on Saturday.

Racing begins at 7 p.m. both nights and for the IMCA racers, if they have 15 cars the payout includes $750 for Friday and $1,000 on Saturday. In addition the Nevada Pro Stock Association will be there Saturday with another of their $1,000 to win nights.

Down south on Saturday the Tonopah Speedway has another of its points races.

On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club will be having a make up race at Desert Park Raceway. As usual there should be a 10 a.m. start to the action.

Over the hill Riverfront MX track will be hosting the next round of its Saturday night series. This is the second of its only back-to-back races this season.

There will be practice Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Saturday gates open at noon with practice starting at 2 p.m. and racing will follow that.

The E Street MX Park has practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. as does Prairie City.

Carson City has the Annual Silver Dollar Car Classic with dances, cruising as well as a shown and shine in Mills Park. For the full schedule please go to www.silverdollarcarclassic.com.

The much anticipated Hot August Nights begins in Virginia City on Friday and Saturday with a huge show and shine on main street. The show moves to the Bonanza Casino on North Virginia Street on Sunday.

Switching over to TV and Internet Land there is much to watch.

All this week the Loretta Lynn Amateur Nationals has been going on and is being streamed on www.fanschoice.tv.

Thursday races begin at 8 a.m. and at 4 p.m. an oval track race from Berlin Raceway will be streamed.

Switching to TV at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR American while Fox 1, at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub.

On Friday Fanschoice.tv has coverage from Loretta Lynn beginning at 6:30 a.m. while Fox Sports 1, at 6 p.m. has NHRA qualifying from Seattle.

Fanschoice.tv gets Saturday rolling at 5:30 a.m. with more coverage for the final day at the Loretta Lynn Amateur Nationals.

At 11 a.m. NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race from Watkins Glen. Then at 3:30 p.m. Fanschoice.tv has a series of short track events that includes the Berlin Raceway, Langley Speedway, Salina High Banks and Tucson Speedway.

Sunday gets going on NBC Sports with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from the classic road course Watkins Glen. Then at 11:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the IMSA Weather Tech race from Elkhart Lake, another classic road course.

Fanschoice.tv comes back at 1 p.m. with the Sturgis Buffalo Chip TT race then at 1 p.m. Fox has the NHRA Northwest Nationals as that series completes its western swing.
