FERNLEY (May 28) – A Memorial Day weekend tradition is the annual Over The Hill Gang National race at the Sandbox, or the Fernley-Wadsworth Lions Club Motocross Track. Riders from several Gang chapters make this journey for two days of racing, comradeship and a darned good BBQ at the end of Saturday’s competition. LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY OPENS 2017 SEASON
LOVELOCK, NV (May 26) – After being rained out two weeks ago Lovelock Speedway finally got its season going. Unlike the earlier date the car count was pretty slim but the track when ahead and opened its 2017 season. After the dust settled on the IMCA main winner K.C. It’s a marathon weekend for racing fans and a sure sign that summer is here. Memorial Day is the biggest racing weekend of the year and this week’s Racing Preview has a bunch of events to cover. DESERT PARK RACEWAY: NNKC – ROUND 3
The Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) was in action this weekend. STEAD (May 21) – Desert Park Raceway echoed to the sounds of racing Go Karts this weekend. It was the third round of this year’s season for NNKC and 33 drivers showed up for the first event in summer like conditions. QUINCY, CALIF. (May 20) – Wonderful late spring weather greeted the racers at American Valley Speedway this Armed Forces Day. Racing Preview for this weekend has a varied menu for those wanting to watch or see motorsports. A week before Memorial Day weekend and some things are ramping up while others are quiet this weekend. NORCAL ROCK RACING AT WILD WEST MOTORSPORTS PARK
Running a bit late on this one but here’s the event that kicks off the truck and buggy off road season in our area. MUSTANG (May 13) – Nor Cal Rock Racing brought its brand of short course racing to the Wild West Motorsports on Saturday. Racing returned to Fernley this weekend at the Wadsworth/Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track. FERNLEY (May 14) – Battle Born MX celebrated Mother’s Day by returning to the Sandbox as its known for round 4 of its spring series. The hosting club this time was the Old Timer’s Motorcycle club. RACING PREVIEW: MAY 11 TO 14
Another varied Racing Preview for this weekend with several events, live as well as broadcast on TV or streamed over the Internet. Friday and Saturday is a busy time as Nor Cal Rock Racing, which runs the VORRA series brings the Metal Cloak Shoot Out to the Wild West Motorsports Park. Racing is on Saturday and, like last year, there should be some Ultra 4 entries to round out the field. Saturday is also busy with several live events. AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: DWARF CAR NATIONALS
The weekend began with some great racing, that is before Mother Nature threw a wet blanket over it. QUINCY (May 5) – American Valley Speedway hosted the field of 75 Dwarf Cars this weekend. The event was the Western States Dwarf Car Association National Memorial Race. Besides being a National the race honored the memory of two drivers, Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay, who perished in wrecks a few years ago. VCGP: HEATHER PICKERING MAKES HISTORY
Although shorter the second day of this year’s VCGP was historic. VIRGINIA CITY (April 30) – The annual Virginia City Grand Prix is divided into separate parts depending on which class a person races in. On the second day Novice, Women, Bombers and Vintage bikes take their turn on the course. Saturday is when the pros, experts and amateurs race in the Comstock Classic. VIRGINIA CITY (April 29) – The Virginia City Grand Prix (VCGP) has been held 46 out of last 47 years.
