This week more racing in our area and even more on TV. Spring is in the air and racers are ready to go.
Racing Preview this week has two events in our area plus a growing number of races on TV. However this on weekend the Internet isn’t busy until next week.
The Western States Racing Association, one of the MRANN clubs, along with AMA District 36 combine for the Wild Horse Hare Scrambles. Two days of racing outside of Toulon, just west of Lovelock on I-80.
Saturday has a bunch of events featuring the Pee Wees, Saturday Women, Vintage and Bombers as well as an early morning Team Race. Sunday is when the big bikes take to the 30-mile course with a 10 a.m. start time.
Closer to Reno at the Wadsworth/Fernley Lions Club Motocross Track, otherwise known as the “Sandbox,” the first race under the new Battle Born MX group will be run. The host club for this event is the local Over The Hill Gang Chapter and the first gate should drop around 9 in the morning.
Should be great weather for the riders to get their spring season underway.
REPORTERS NOTE: If you are going out to a Sunday event or watching one remember we switch to Daylight Savings time early that morning so set your watches and clocks one hour ahead. For those reading this article and not in our area remember all times given are in the Pacific Time Zone.
There is also a special event here in Sparks; a fundraiser for the Blue Ribbon Coalition, a group working to preserve recreation access to public lands.
The event is the “Mile to Wild Trail Ride,” which stages at 9 a.m. then leaves at 9:30 from 4-Wheel Parts on Victorian Avenue located west of McCarran. The store is also having a sale on parts and is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
This is a good chance to help support those working to preserve public lands for the use of the public.
Over the hill the Riverfront MX Park has finally surfaced but there is a lot of work to be done before racing can resume. Prairie City will have restricted practice sessions Saturday but Sunday is reserved for a California chapter of the Over The Hill Gang event.
Going into the week end the fare on TV is a bit slim or in the “Rerun Zone.” However NBC Sports gets Thursday started with NASCAR America at 2 p.m. then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Hub.
Friday begins at 11 a.m. when Fox Sports begins broadcasting practice sessions from Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Then at 4:45 Fox Sports 2 has Cup qualifying from the Speedway.
On Saturday for Air Race fans NBC Sports has its first of several programs from last year’s event starting at 11 a.m. then at 1 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcast the Xfinity race from Las Vegas.
Back east in Daytona the annual Bike week is getting going and at 4 p.m. Supercross will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2. However if you don’t have that channel don’t worry as Fox Sports 1 will have the delayed broadcast of the event at noon Sunday.
The Indy Car season gets rolling at 9 a.m. Sunday as ABC covers the race from Saint Petersburg, Florida. Then at noon Fox airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event from Las Vegas.
That same afternoon MAVTV has a series of programs beginning at 1 p.m. and they are the Lucas Oil Off Road Series, Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing and a Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League event.
That’s it for this weekend and since the weather is going to be very spring like make it a point to get out and see one of the two motorcycle events in our area. Fresh air, lots of speed and excitement are what makes seeing a race live so special.
