President’s Birthday Weekend has the start of racing in our area plus TV has another major racing series beginning its season.
Racing Preview for this weekend has the first race of the year in our region as well as another event in Southern California and a host of things on TV as well as on the Internet.
Latest word from Zeb Armstrong was that both E Street and Riverfront are still underwater. Prairie City is still doubtful since another storm is expected.

In our area MRANN begins its racing year with the Battle Born 100 staged by the Trail Blazers Motorcycle Club. As usual the Pee Wees start things rolling at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by the Mini Bike/V Women/Vintage and Bomber bikes and the popular Team Races, starting at 2 p.m., finishes the day.
On Sunday the big bikes get their turn with a 10 a.m. start as they challenge a course that has a 52-mile then a 48-mile loop. A rider has to complete the first lap to be classed as a finisher.
Further south in Palmdale, California the second round of this year’s Road to Mammoth qualifiers will be run on Sunday.
Once again the TV fare is a mix of live events plus some that are in the Rerun Zone.
MAVTV gets things rolling Thursday as they have a series of events run last year. The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League gets things started followed by the Dirty 30 show, Super Cup Stock Series and the Geneva Supercross.
East of us things are heating up as NASCAR is starting Speedweeks and getting their season going.
On Friday Fox Sports 1 at 2 p.m. has the first practice sessions on the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway. Then at 3:30p.m. they have the first practice for this year’s Clash at Daytona that includes last year’s pole winners.
MAVTV also has programs from last year beginning at 11 a.m. with AMA Pro Flat Track racing followed by Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Lucas Oil ASCS.
Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv at 4:30 p.m. has the Motorsports Hall of Fame Opening ceremony. One might want to check that day as at that same time they have listed a short track event.
A long time tradition gets things going Saturday when Fox Sports 1 airs the ARCA race from Daytona. This series has the honor of starting racing on the oval.
Fox Sports 1 continued at 5 p.m. with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Clash for last year’s pole winners and ends the day at 7 p.m. with Supercross.
Over on the Internet Fanschoice has a World of Asphalt race at 4:30 p.m. from New Smyrna Speedway.
Sunday is a huge day for the Cup drivers as Fox, starting at noon, carries qualifying for this year’s Daytona 500. Unlike most sessions only the top two fastest are guaranteed their slots while the others have to race for the remaining starting positions.
MAVTV will also have a selection of events from last year starting at 11 a.m. with the Lucas Oil Off Road Series followed by the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League.
Then at 5 p.m. CBS Sports has a United States Pro Kart Series event.
On Monday Fanschoice.tv at 4:30 p.m. has another World of Asphalt race from New Smyrna Speedway.
