Fall MX Classic returned to the Fernley Lion’s Motocross track, or the Sandbox, this weekend. Since there were just over 250 riders on hand it took 21 motos to get all the classes their sets of motos. The one exception was the club race and that usually only has one moto.
There were six pros that lined up and Reno’s Billy Adam had their measure. He led from start to finish in both of his motos giving him a sweep of the weekend..
Collin McHaney was second ahead of Justin Minsch and Brandon Acauistapace.
The other pro winner was Terry Bostard, who rides in the 30+ pro division.
After sweeping the day, Adam said, “I went one-one for the day, couldn’t ask for anything better. The track is fun today.”
Then he thanked his father for all his help and paying for the support.
The other division running in those motos was the 250/450 Intermediate and Dylan Galliett swept the day with Michael Jepsen second and Corey Riddle taking third.
The Schoolboy motos were won by Austin Serpa, who usually rides in National Hare and Hound races.
One good sign of the health and interest in motocross for our area was the 125/250 Beginner Class. These riders have stepped up from the smaller 85cc machines and are now riding the big bikes.
There were so many of them that this class had to be divided into two separate races as they would have totally overloaded the starting gate.
Travis Bostard, who came all the way from Discovery Bay, California won Division 1 while the Division 2 winner was Austin Mason from Sparks.
Another stout looking class was in 85cc Beginner. Once again these riders are coming up from the 65cc and Pee Wee ranks. They had 20 riders on the gate and all but four of them finished.
Topping this class was Wyatt Brixey with Trevor Hargett and Taren Turnage coming home second and third.
As usual the 85cc Supermini bikes were pared with the Women. Topping the Supermini class was Danny Hillyer followed by Dylan Thorwaldson and Anthony Belt.
In the Women’s ranks Sedanna Losey scored the day’s over all victory followed by Ashleigh Trapanese and Chrystal Ponsock, who rode in the MRANN women’s class on Saturday. Here again the class is strong as there were eleven of these riders on the gate.
At the upper end of the age scale Scott Chick won the 52+ Expert victory, Lonnie Madsen was the 52+ Junior winner and Jay Heying was the lone 52+ Intermediate racer.
There were so many youngsters in the Pee Wee classes they had four separate races.
In the 4- to 6-year-old ranks the winner was Kallien Toland while Rowdy Richardson was the 7- to 8-year-old victor.
There were three 4-Stroke PW riders and Issac Bryant won there followed by Abigail McIntyne riding in her second race. Joseph Mitchell won the Pee Wee Open division.
With all the hard racing several riders went down and a few were injured enough to need some checking. One however crashed hard enough to earn an ambulance ride but their condition wasn’t known when this was published.
The Old Timers MX Club hosted this round and they were blessed by warm, nice weather. Hearing the comments it seems everyone was happy to be out there.
The next round will be back at the Sandbox on the weekend of October 22/23. Hosting the event will be the Over The Hill Gang and riders will be trying to gain as many points as possible as the series has only two more rounds to go.
