Now that Labor Day has come and passed things are starting to wind down for some racers and winding up for others.
Racing Preview for this week shows that fall is in the air and things are changing locally, nationally and internationally.
Livfast Exit 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., hosts its final Saturday and Sunday practice sessions before the fall motocross season begins at the track.
The desert racers in MRANN will be gearing up for the start of the fall races and they week they head for Winnemucca. As usual Pee Wees, Mini Bikes, Women and Team Racers ride on Saturday with the Big Bikes going on Sunday.
On Friday, around 7 p.m. Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California starts its final race of the season.
On Saturday the Northern Nevada Kart Club has another points race at Desert Park Raceway. This time there will be no practice so the action begins around 10:30 in the morning.
Later in the day Rattlesnake Raceway has Hero Night, starting at 6 p.m. where all military and first responders get in free. It’s the final points night of the season and championships will be secured for those that race cars as well as Outlaw Karts.
And last week it was officially announced that Lovelock Speedway has ended its season.
Fernley 95A Speedway was supposed to have a demolition derby, chain races and mud bogs this Saturday but the event has been canceled. They will end their season on September 17th and there will be no two-day shoot out this year.
The biggest racing event in our area will actually begin Sunday as racers get some time on the course. Then at 8 a.m. Monday morning qualifying begins for the annual National Championship Air Races with racing starting Wednesday afternoon.
This year the Flying Blue Angels return to round out the air show part of the event.
Area Sprint Car fans will be heading over the hill to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico this weekend. The World of Outlaws will be there Friday and Saturday nights for the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
Opening ceremonies are at 7 p.m. each night but the race can be watched, by subscription, or listen to for free on www.dirtvision.com.
Thursday is a bit thin on TV but CBS Sports, starting at 5 p.m. will have an Endurocross from Indianapolis followed by Real Road Racing in Ireland.
Once again, on Thursday at 7 p.m. NBC Sports will have another show about this year’s King of the Hammers. These are the Ultra 4 racers and they will be competing at Wild West Motorsports Park on October 22nd.

Friday is basically all NASCAR on NBC Sports starting at 5 a.m. with practice sessions from Richmond and ending at 4:30 p.m. with the Xfinity race.
Saturday begins at noon on www.fanschoice.tv as the service streams three short track races. Then at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race from Richmond.
This race might be a wild one as it is the final chance for some drivers to make this year’s Chase for the Championship. Look for plenty of action during the race.
Sunday belongs to CBS Sports as the network starts at 10 a.m. with a German Touring Car race from Nurburgring followed by a British Touring Car event. Then they switch gears and air a Australian V-8 Supercar race from Sydney followed by Lucas Oil Off Road racing.
The afternoon ends when the network shows the FIM MX2 and FIM MXGP races.
Be sure to attend a race if you can. There is nothing like experiencing the speed, color and excitement first hand and you’ll be supporting both the local tracks as well as the drivers.
