Reporters Note: Due to the 4 of July holiday next week’s racing reports will be published on Tuesday. Wishing everyone a great holiday.
STEAD (June (26) – Desert Park Raceway was a busy place this Sunday. Despite the heat a good number of racers showed up to compete in the fourth round of this year’s Northern Nevada Kart Club’s series.
“We didn’t have a very good second heat so I knew I had to get him (Mike Faker) on the start or had to pass him somewhere he’s weak at,” Jeremy Kay said after winning the 125 Stock Moto main. “I knew he goes a little wide in Turn 6 so I knew that’s where I had to get him and I just maneuvered him and luckily got under him.”
Then he thanked his father, grandparents, Holm Racing and his sister for their support. He also added Rodney Rivera at Nevada Kart Sport and the Man Above.
When the race started Faker was on point with Kay in hot pursuit and Dean Andrews holding down third place. It only took a lap or two before Kay made the winning pass.
From that point he extended his lead until the finish.
“When I saw him at the start line, when I was coming out of Turn 2, I knew I had to just run consistent laps, not do anything stupid, and I’d win the race,” Kay said.
Like the 125 shifter karts, there were only three F-80’s that took the green. By the time the field exited Turn 2 Jeremy Holm was in command although his start was a bit rough.
From that point he stormed away to take the victory followed by Jeff Wamre and his father Kurt Holm. However the run wasn’t trouble free.
Asked about the race Holm said, “The first lap was pretty bad as I got a really bad start but still beat Jeff (Wamre) to the first corner. After that I fumbled into Turn 3 but just stayed out front, cleared my head and kept on pushing.”
He also admitted to some motor problems with his kart.
“We’ve been having more motor problems this race as it’s getting a little on the hot side. We’ve got a new radiator thanks to Kay Motorsports because they had a spare laying around.. We threw it on, it helpeda little bit but we’ve still got heating problems so we’ve got to get that sorted out by then next race.”
Then he thanked his father, tire sponsor Team Bankruptcy and Kay Motorsports for radiator.
After a couple of races the TAG Master class had five racers plus the TAG Senior kart of Lexus Kay. Unfortunately due to problems both Mike McMullen and Keith Roberts didn’t compete in the main.
When the green waved Mike Ryckebosch jumped head of his brother Steve as they both roared into Turn 1 with Jeff Solvason and Kay not far behind.
After that Ryckebosch pulled a gap of about three seconds over his brother as they pulled away making it a family feud for the victory. This was a bit different than their second heat when they were usually six inches or less apart during that event.
In the end Mike crossed the finish line not quite three seconds ahead of this brother Steve. Behind them came Solvason and Kay.
After the post-race weigh in Mike Ryckebosch said, “I started on pole and got a better start. I knew Steve was not far behind coming up so I just tried to run some consistent laps and it turned out good for a change. I feel happy everything ran so well and my times were equivalent to what I qualified at.”
Then he thanked God for keeping everyone safe and the club (NNKC) for letting them come out and spend the day racing.
The Senior/Sumo LO206 class looked it would have had a very competitive race. Make a one-race visit before going back to college was Alec Beaudon.
Unfortunately a motor change put Beaudon toward the back of the field when their main began. Up front Zach Rivera wasn’t wasting any time and took off leaving everyone in his dust.
Behind him young Beaudon was carving his way through the pack and past the half way point was in second with a clear track ahead of him. While the chase was on Rivera had too large of a gap to over come and claimed the win although Beaudon had closed the gap to a bit over four seconds.
“I like competition and it’s too bad he (Beaudon) and to change a motor and be set back,” Rivera said. “It probably would have a good battle between us but that’s all right, we’ll see about the next race. The track was getting hotter and usually I expect my times to drop but they stayed the same the whole time, it was very strange.”
Then he thanked his father Rodney, Nevada Kart Sport and Arturo for the kart. And he was glad there was tech inspections after each class raced.
There were two SUMO LO206 racers in the event and Brandon Walsh won that class with Jason Anderline second.
Four Jr-2 racers started the race but Caleb Mayer wound up on the sidelines after only one lap. Up front Jake Guzelis was on point with Chase Dulude about three second back while Bryce Berry as running solo in third.
Guzelis would win the race as Dulude was just unable to close the gap and had to settle for the runner up spot.
After the race Guzelis said, “I just stuck with it and kept driving good. It’s hard to be by myself as I’m faster when I’m following someone. And the track felt great to me but it was a little loose sometimes.”
Then he thanked his father, Cole Nelson and another of his crew.
When the Jr.-1 main began both Asa Gourley and another kart spun. Only Gourley was able to continue but up front Brooks Anderline was leaving everyone behind him.
While Anderline was extending his lead over the pack behind him Wyatt Sander and Heavyn Hill were dueling for second place.
Further back there was first a four-way duel for fifth, which later became a three-way duel for the position.
Anderline reached the finish almost 30-seconds ahead of Hill, who took over second in the final laps. Sander, Austin Hawkins and Kendra Winters ended up third through fifth.
Asked if he knew how far out in front he was, Anderline said, “No but kind of because my parents were giving me signs.”
Then he thanked Cole Nelson Racing and his parents.
Once again there were a trio of Kid Kart racers. Tarron Graves would win their main with a steadily improving Mia Wright second. Alyssa Winters had a steady race going until she fell out after a spin on her final lap.
Now the teams have off until July 30 when they meet again at Desert Park Raceway for round 6 of the season.
