Racing season is almost here and this article show the increase in activity.
This week’s Racing Preview shows that spring is fast approaching as the second desert race of the season is upon us and the first motocross in our region is only one week away.
Locally Livfast Exit 28 will once again host practice sessions from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend the Cheaters and Rimbenders clubs combine forces to bring the Rhino Roller 100 out at Blue Wing Flat. That’s a location northwest of Toulon, which is this side of Lovelock.
Saturday begins at 9:30 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the V-Women, Mini Bikes and Bombers running a hare scramble format.
Then at 2 p.m. there will be a team race where riders switch after doing each loop, which are 15-miles long.
Saturday is for the big bikes and their race begins at 10 a.m. so a rider must complete one of the 50-mile loops to be considered a finisher. For anyone going out there from Reno, they should allow at least two and a half hours to reach the pits.
Two weeks from now the first motocross in our region will take place out at Winnemucca and here is their schedule.
Moving over to the TV and Internet on Thursday, at 8:30 p.m. NBC Sports has a delayed broadcast of a race from New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.
Friday is a bit thin but Fox Sports will have a bunch of NASCAR programs about practice from Atlanta and qualifying.
Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv will broadcast Amsoil Championship Snocross events starting at 10:25 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Saturday has a double header Atlanta as both the Camping World Trucks and Xfinity series race on the same day. Fox Sports 1 has the Xfinity event starting at 10:30 a.m. then at 1:30 p.m. the Camping World Trucks take to the track.
Finally, starting at 4 p.m. the next round of Supercross starts and they too are at Atlanta.
There will be a local rider competing. In the KTM Junior Racer event La La Turner from Gardnerville will compete and carry the number 1 plate.
Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. on Fox as the Sprint Cup racers take to the high-banked track at Atlanta.This time the finish might not be as close as it was in Daytona.
Then at 2 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcast the NHRA round from Phoenix.
That’s it for this week and things are ramping up in our area as we head into March.
