Racing is beginning to heat up and locally we’re almost to our first event of the year.
This week’s Racing Preview is a mixed bag that contains the first major race in the country, TV and Internet as well as a serious part.
First and foremost a local veteran motocross rider and announcer Adam Portue` has been going through some grave medical challenges as he battles cancer.
He and his wife Krista are working to pay for all the treatments that Adam is now going through. Right now Adam is unable to work so it’s been a struggle.
To help them, they’ve set up a Go Fund Me page and any donations would be appreciated. That page is “Adams Road to Recovery,” and you can access it at, www.gofundme.com.
Prayers and good wishes are also appreciated.
Locally and depending on the incoming weather there may or may not be practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Livfast Exit 28’s motocross track.
This week is a mix of coverage between TV and the Internet.
On Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. qualifying starts for the IMSA Weather Tech 24 hour race at Daytona. It will be carried on www.imsa.com and also streamed on www.fanschoice.tv.
At noon that day MAVTV has the Dirty 30 program followed by Madera Late Models.
Then at 8 p.m. CBS Sports has the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. I believe this is a repeat of an earlier race.
Friday is pretty slow but at 10:45 a.m. both IMCA.com and Fanschoice.tv will stream the Continental Tire Challenge race from the road course at the Daytona International Speedway.
Then on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. it’s the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Challenge, the 54th Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Coverage begins on Fox Sports 1 and will bounce around during the day. The entire event is going to be streamed on Fox Sports Go, www.IMSA.com while the overnight racing will be streamed on www.fanschoice.tv.
Then at 7 p.m. the next round of the Supercross season is broadcast live from Oakland. Since there is a storm coming in this could be a near mud bog for these racers.
The Daytona 24 hour Weather Tech race ends Sunday morning and that broadcast, on Fox Sports 1, begins at 10 a.m. and runs until the end.
At noon and 3 p.m. MAVTV has Lucas Oil Drag Boat action and pretty well winds up the weekend.
For local racing fans there are only two more weeks before the first event in our area.
