Racing preview for this week is a buffet of different types of racing, live, on TV and the Internet.
There is a varied menu for racing fans in this area with three different live events to fill the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon the Northern Nevada Kart will bring down the curtain on their season with the annual night race at Desert Park Raceway. Practice begins around 4 p.m. and after qualifying racing will begin as they roar into the night.
Any championships that are up for grabs will be decided by the time the final checkered flag waves.
Fernley 95A Speedway is also having its final points race of the season with the action beginning at 6 p.m. and the track will crown its champions when the evening is over.
On Sunday the off-road racers in VORRA will be running in their next to last short course event of the season at Wild West Motorsports Park. While Saturday is for practice and qualifying racing begins around 10 a.m. Sunday and a three-moto format will be used.
For local motocross riders Livfast Exit 28 will be hosting practice sessions form 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
TV is a bit sparse on Thursday although there will be several NASCAR related programs. Last week’s Whelan Modified race from New Hampshire will be shown at 4 p.m. on NBC Sports.
Friday heats up early at 6:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 shows FIA World Endurance highlights. And for sports car fans www.fanschoice.tv will be airing qualifying from the annual Petit LeMans event.
Saturday begins at 8 a.m. with more coverage from the Petit LeMans but this time it will switch between Fox Sports 2 and fanschoice.tv.
Then at noon NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race from Dover while, at 7 p.m., Fox Sports 1 shows the Camping World Truck race from Las Vegas.
Sunday is also busy beginning at 3 a.m. when MAVTV has World Rally coverage.
Then at 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports begins coverage of the Petit LeMans event. It’s an endurance race and runs through the afternoon.
At 11:30 a.m. NBC Sports shows the Sprint Cup race from Dover. This is an important event as those qualified for the Chase will begin to be eliminated as they work to the final four in the season’s final race.
The NHRA is also conducting its countdown and this week they are at the Keystone Nationals. The final rounds will be shown delayed starting at 5 p.m. on ESPN 2.
Fanschoice.tv offers a couple of events and if you’re a motocycle fan check out www.promotocross.com for more action from different events.
That’s it for this weekend. Be sure to get out and see some local racing as the seasons are winding down and soon we’ll be in the winter doldrums for racing fans.
There is nothing like being at a live event to really experience the excitement and color that racing offers fans.
