RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 25-27

Racing preview for this week and a new event on the menu.

RENO – This week is another mix of different events, some local and others national. And this time there’s something new.

Two events in our area are two-day affairs running on Saturday and Sunday.

The new one is the Silver State Rock Crawling Championship held at the Wild West Motorsports Park. What it might lack for speed the competition compensates by offering major obstacles for competitors to negotiate.

Wild West Motorsport Park - Silver State Rock Crawling Championship

New event, Silver State Rock Crawling Championships.

The action begins at 10 a.m. each morning and is on the west side of the parking lot on top of that hill. Wild West is off I-80 at the Mustang exit and on the north side of the freeway.

Just east of downtown Fallon, the annual Dirt Track Championships signals the formal end of the season for Rattlesnake Raceway. There should be additional classes for the cars and the Outlaw Karts will also be in action.

Rattlesnake Raceway - Dirt Track Championships

Two days of racing marks the annual Dirt Track Championships at Rattlesnake Raceway.

Since it’s a two-day event racing on Saturday begins at 5 p.m. and Sunday’s show has a 1 p.m. start time.

On Saturday evening Fernley 95A Speedway has a show featuring a demolition derby, chain races and a mud bog.

MRANN - Wild Horse Hare Scrambles

The desert races in the MRANN series compete Sunday at the Wild Horse Hare Scrambles.

On Sunday, just north of the Toulon exit, before the freeway gets to Lovelock, the off road motorcycle racers of MRANN will ride the Wilde Horse Hare Scrambles. This is a one-event and the Pee Wee riders get things started at 8 a.m. followed by the Women and Mini Bikes then the Big Bikes tackle a 45-mile course starting at 11:30 a.m.

Fall Motocross Series

On Sunday the fall Motocross series begins at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross track.

Also on Sunday the fall motocross series begins at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track just east of the veteran’s cemetery. After morning practice the first moto is slated to begin at 9 a.m.

While Thursday is a quiet day on TV the action begins on Friday with NASCAR practice on NBC Sports and Fox Sports 1. Then ARCA race from Kentucky starts at 5 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.

Saturday begins at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 when the Camping World Trucks race at Loudon, New Hampshire. That’s followed at 5 p.m. with the Xfinity event from Kentucky.

Formula 1 fans don’t have to get up at “dark thirty,” to see the Japanese Grand Prix as it’s broadcast live beginning at 9:30 p.m. on NBC Spsorts.

Motogp from Aragon will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 starting at 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Sprint Cup race from Loudon begins at 11 a.m. on NBC Sports while CBS Sports broadcasts an Australian V8 Supercar race beginning at noon.

And finally Sunday ends, at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN 2 as the NHRA race from St. Louis is broadcast on a tape delayed basis.

On the Internet side www.fanschoice.tv has a mixed menu for Saturday that includes short track racing, an AMA motorcycle race as well as a Super Boat event.

Looks like an action packed weekend so be sure to get out and support our local racers and tracks. There is nothing like being at a race live to experience the excitement, noise, color and speed racing offers fans.
