Racing preview for this weekend has something for almost any racing fan. Including a special event that will only happen once this year in our area.
Locally oval track fans have three choices but there are two other events going on as well in a weekend filled with motor sports.
It all begins at 7 p.m. as Lovelock Speedway closes out its 2015 season as the track class championships are secured.
Then on Saturday at 6 p.m. Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon, hosts another points races but this time, along with the cars, there will be mud drags.
Further north in Susanville, Diamond Mountain also hosts a race with a 7 p.m. start time.
Then on Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club is in action, beginning around 10 a.m. as it stages the seventh round of its points races.
But the biggest event of the weekend is the visit by the Lucas Oil Off Road series to Wild West Motorsports Park, located on the north side of I-80 by the Mustang exit.
Various classes will run and as it’s late in the season, points are critical if a driver and team wants a shot at one of the championships. On Saturday and Sunday gates open at 11 a.m. with a 2 p.m. opening ceremony just before the racing action begins.
And as usual from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Livfast Exit 28 motocross track will be holding practice sessions for those riders wanting more seat time.
Over on Television action begins today as all three top division of NASCAR visit the Bristol Motor Speedway.
First up is the Camping World Truck series as they take to this bullring tonight, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1. The race will be rebroadcast on Thursday.
Thursday is very light with several NASCAR related show but at 4 p.m. there will be a K&N Series East race from Smithton.
Things begin to heat up on Friday as, at 4:30 p.m. the Xfinity series starts their race at Bristol. Any race here is usually action packed due to how small the track is and how large the cars are.
On Saturday two wheel fans start the day the next round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series beginning at 10 a.m. on MAVTV. Then the second motos will be aired starting at 8:30 p.m. on NBC Sports.
For those not able to watch or record the motos they are repeated on www.promotocross.com.
At 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports will air the Sprint Cup race from Bristol. It’s been described as 43 rockets in a bathtub and is usually a wild affair.
For Kyle Busch, he needs a good finish to remain in the top 30 in points to make the championship chase.
Sunday begins early as Formula 1 returns from its August break with a race on the series longest track at Spa. Broadcast begins at 4 a.m. and runs for the next two and half hours on NBC Sports.
Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the United Sports Car series from Virginia. At 11:30 a.m. NBC Sports returns for more open wheel action as the Indy Car series takes to the Triangle at Pocono.
At that same time CBS Sports airs an ARCA event from the Springfield Mile.
And the weekend ends at 6 p.m. when ESPN 2 brings the final rounds of the NHRA event from Brainrd.
And as usual, www.fanschoice.tv has a wide selection of short track events along with some AMA races if they are broadcast this weekend.
While the TV has something for almost every taste in motor sports there is still nothing like being at a race and seeing it live. Be sure to get out and support our local tracks as well as take in one or two days of the Lucas Oil Off Road races.
