Racing preview for this weekend has a mix of local and national events to see.
Racing this week is a bit light locally but heavy on the TV and Internet side of things.
Things actually begin as Baldini’s Casino on Sparks is hosting its Freedom Festival. Highlighting Saturday is a visit from Livfast Freestyle MX riders.
These guys will be jumping their motorcycles high in the air and doing tricks up there as well. Times are 2, 4 and 8 p.m. and it’s always a good show.
And if a person still wants their racing fix and a fireworks show, two regional tracks can fill that need.
Just east of Downtown Fallon, Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting its traditional 4th of July event. The cars and Outlaw Karts will be racing both heats and main events.
Sometime, probably around 9 p.m. racing will be stopped for the town’s fireworks display, held at the track. It’s usually a great show and takes up around 40 minutes to complete.
North of here, in Susanville, California, Diamond Mountain Speedway, at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, also has racing and fireworks. Their show starts around 7 p.m.
Thursday’s TV begins early as CBS Sports airs the V8 Supercars starting at 2 a.m. then at 11 a.m. MAVTV has the World Rally from Poland.
Friday is all about NASCAR as NBC Sports airs practice sessions for the Xfinity and Sprint Cup series from Daytona.
This is the week when the NASCAR broadcasts switch from Fox to NBC.
Saturday begins on MAVTV at 3 a.m. with another broadcast from the World Rally in Poland. Then at 10 a.m. the network broadcasts the latest round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series from Red Creek.
The second motos will be shown on NBC with the 450 one at 1 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by the second 250 motos.
If you want all these motos, they can be seen the week following the event on www.promotocross.com. And are virtually commercial free.
For flat track action www.fanschoice.tv will broadcast the AMA event from Lima, Ohio sometime Saturday.
Then at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports broadcasts the Xfinity race from Daytona International Speedway.
Sunday begins at 3 a.m. as MAVTV continues its coverage of the World Rally event from Poland.
At 4:30 a.m. once of the classic Formula One races, the British Grand Prix from Silverstone (Where the modern series began.) airs on NBC.
Following that at 10 a.m. ESPN has the NHRA event from Ohio.
CBS Sports is also in the game starting with World Challenge races beginning at 10 a.m. followed by Moto America at 1 p.m.
Then the weekend ends with NASCAR as the Sprint Cup series takes to the high banks of Daytona for their raee beginning at 4:30 p.m. out time.
If you can, get out Saturday and support our local tracks as both offer some great short track racing along with a fireworks show. Nothing beats seeing and experiencing live racing.
And from us to all of you have a Happy 4th of July, Happy Birthday America.
