This week’s racing has a mix of two- and four-wheel action in our region.
The Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track will be in action as MRANN ends its spring desert-racing season. It’s the annual Corey Herring Memorial race but this time in a short track configuration.
On Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m. the big bikes can practice then at 10:30 a.m. the Pee Wee riders take center stage. They are followed by the Mini Bike race and later the Women’s, Vintage and Bomber race.
On Sunday each of the big bike classes get their own separate race on the extended course. Novice riders are flagged off at 8:30 a.m. then, at 10:30 the Amateurs get their turn and at 1 p.m. the Experts take to the track.
Four oval tracks in our region will also be hosting races this weekend.
On Friday at 7 p.m. Lovelock Speedway starts racing and at the same time in Susanville, Diamond Mountain Speedway will be in action.
On Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. the Fernley 95A Speedway hosts its next race while down in Quincy, California, the American Valley Speedway also has a race with a 7 p.m. start time.
Over on TV Thursday is a bit slim but at 8 p.m. NBCSN will show a repeat of a NASCAR Whelen Modified race.
For a mix MAVTV, beginning at 1 p.m., airs a New Zealand Drift event followed by Australian V8 Touring Cars and after that a British Drift event.
On Friday Fox Sports 1 at 5:30 p.m. carries the Camping World Truck series race from Iowa.
Saturday is also a bit thin but Fox Sports 2 will broadcast an ARCA race beginning at p.m. then at 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Xfinity event from Chicagoland Speedway.
This weekend the Sprint Cup teams get time off before heading to Sonoma Speedway for the first road course race of the year.
For two wheel fans the latest round of the AMA Pro Flat Track series can be seen starting at 1:30 p.m. on www.fanschoice.tv.
Another series taking the weekend off is the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series. But their motos can still be viewed at www.promotocross.com.
Now the riders get a chance to catch their breaths before heading to the next event.
Sunday begins early at 4:30 a.m. as NBC Sports Network has the Formula 1 race from Austria. Then at noon CBS Sports Network airs the Moto America show.
Also at noon ESPN has the NHRA Mello Yellow series at Bristol.
Be sure to get out and attend one of our local races as there is nothing like being there to hear the sounds, see the color and smell the tire smoke not to mention rooting for your favorite driver.
