RACING PREVIEW FOR THIS WEEK HAS SOMETHING FOR JUST ABOUT ANY MOTOR SPORTS FAN
Once again our area is blessed with a varied selection of races to attend. And the racing preview shows there is something for almost everybody.
The action begins south of Fallon at the Top Gun Raceway with $5 Friday where people can either see how they car will do or test and tune for the weekend. Hours are from 6 p.m. until 11 a.m. for those interested.
Drag racing runs through the weekend as the track stages rounds 4 and 5 of its ET series and the Junior Dragsters are also part of the show.
East of downtown Fallon on Saturday evening, Rattlesnake Raceway hosts another round of its series. As usual racing begins around 6 p.m. with the car classes and Outlaw Karts competing.
The night is dedicated to honoring our military.
That same night the American Valley Speedway, in Quincy, California hosts another of its races with a 7 p.m. start to the action.
On Sunday, beginning around 10 a.m. the Northern Nevada Kart Club races at its track, Desert Park Raceway.
For those wanting some time to hone their motocross skills Livfast Exit 28 will be holding practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Further south, in Gardnerville, Testa Motorsports is hosting a car wash along with a raffle, BBQ and bounce house. The proceeds help fund young rider’s trips to the nationals at the Mammoth motocross event this summer.
Television this weekend also has a variety of programming.
On Thursday CBS Sports Network has Australian V8 Supercars from noon until 1 p.m. followed by the Las Vegas round of Endurocross run two weeks ago.
That same day Fox Sports 1 has practice sessions from Charlotte, North Carolina. This starts an annual two-week stay in this area that is the real home of NASCAR.
Friday, on Fox Sports 1 there will be Sprint Cup Show Down qualifying for NASCAR’s all star race at 1 p.m. followed by the Camping World Truck race at 5 p.m.
On Saturday the Indy Cars qualify for the pole at this year’s Indy 500 beginning at 1 p.m. on ABC.
For those wanting to see the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross from Hangtown the schedule is very different this year. First motos on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. will be shown on MAVTV followed at 4 p.m. on NBC Sports by the 2nd motos.
This year both networks will split the coverage.
And the motos will be streamed live on Promotocross.com or NBC Sports Live Extra app. And they’ll be archived on Promotocross.com.
Then at 4 p.m. Saturday there will be more qualifying from Charlotte as the field is set for the Sprint Cup All Star race on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 6 p.m.
Three months after his accident at the Daytona 500, Kyle Busch will be back in the #18 M&Ms car once again. This past week he was medically cleared to race once more.
And on the Internet there will be several races shown from various short tracks around the country. You can see those at www.fanschoice.tv.
On Sunday Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the Xfinity race at 11 a.m. while, over on ABC the next session of Indy 500 time trials begins at 10 a.m.
MAVTV has its Speed Sport news show Sunday evening at 5 p.m. while the final eliminations from the NHRA event in Atlanta will be shown on ESPN 2 beginning at 6 p.m.
So it’s a full weekend for racing fans but if possible get out and support our local tracks and see some live racing.
